Garnet you've got me thinking again...LOL!
Hi Garnet, this one is on you!
First of all thanks for asking such a thought-provoking question, it has evoked some interesting responses.
I was looking over the comments in your thread on MLMs (including my own), and I got the strange feeling of an underlying sentiment shared by people who have really been failed by a system that was designed to give them everything they dreamed of.
And that got me thinking...
You see, I don't really think the discussion is about whether the company you bought into delivered on promise. I think it's more about whether you (and I) have been successful in your chosen endeavour, be it MLM, affiliate programs, offline marketing, online marketing, or whatever.
Like I said, MLM is simply Marketing on Multiple Levels, and we do that all the time.
Success in MLM however, is really down to the individual.
By the way, let me ask you something?
Would we really be worrying about whether MLM sucked or not if we were raking in $100,000 per week? Probably not!
The discussion as to whether MLM actually works crops when people who are promised the $100,000/week don't make it. Or rather, they give up (usually from sheer exhaustion) before they realise that they can make it.
And let's face it, the real question is, why did we get involved in that company in the first place?
What made you consider that product or service, what was your motivation? Was it money, freedom, happiness or fear? What reason drove you to sign on the dotted line? Is that still your reason or has it changed?
We live in a society of rampant consumerism, and we are constantly bombarded with the false notion that in order to be happy we need to buy this product or that. We all know the truth, this is not true. That is not to say we shouldn't fill our lives with great stuff, or continue to develop our fascinating minds; however, deep down if that possession does not add value to your life, it's probably not worth having.
Succeeding in business takes due dilligence, perseverance, guts, courage, vision, passion, excitement, enthusiasm, faith and above all love. You've got to see yourself as successful in business (in bottom line terms that means making profit) otherwise you will probably fall by the wayside. Most people spend time criticizing the market or the industry or the company or the cat! Truth is if you have time to do that you're obviously not busy enough LOL!
Networking is also a crucial part of business success, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a successful entrepreneur who didn't use it at some point or other.
However, if you are the kind of person I've just described, you can succeed in any endeavour, be that MLM, internet marketing or sweeping the streets! It's all down to you.
So I say, look to yourself and quit you like men; set your targets, and reach them again and again; follow your passion, have a vision and GO FOR IT! Never stop until you've reached your own personal summit. Walk to the beat of your own drum, Follow your own inner voice (which is practically screaming at you most of the time). Once established your own patterns of success will keep you moving forward.
Above all, be of service to others in any way you can, always give with a spirit of gratitude. Find the joy of being a child imagineer again, and set yourself free from externally imposed limitations.
Let's face it, who knows what you can achieve?
Let's move forward people. How about a new question,
"What's the verdict: MLM Success...How Do You Achieve It?"
Namaste,
Dora
p.s.
What's that you say? Have I made it?
All I can say is, I am well on my way...

Such great points, Dora. For me, the MLM business is just like any other - you have to LIKE what you do in order to do it well. If you have found a good product or service that you believe in, you'll do well. If you put the time in to nurture your business, you'll do well. I don't believe in any business opportunity that makes claims you'll make hundreds of thousands of dollars for doing nothing. If it's worth doing, it's worth DOING.

Hi Dora,
Who's worried? LOL
MLM is a tricky biz....the discussion is about bringing forward Truth(one of my many passions!) and Solutions.
Perhaps a few folks who happen across it will make their decisions a little more carefully in the future too!
Keep Thinking...LOL...I'm off to join in....
