Are you planning to relocate from your current location? The process can be stressful, especially when you plan to bring your vehicle along. You can drive the vehicle if relocating for a short distance, or you can hire the services of an auto transport company. Here is the safest method of transporting your vehicle.

Auto Transporters

Auto transporters have large trucks that carry cars from one location to the next. Using these auto transporters is cheaper than self-driving, especially when you have to relocate over a long distance. When you use an auto-transporter, your vehicle is safely moved from one location to the next. There are two main methods to do this; open transportation and enclosed transportation. Some cars are more suited for enclosed transportation while others are best transported on an open truck.

Open vs. Enclosed Transportation: Which is Safer?

In open-car transportation, the vehicles are moved in an open trailer. Most of the vehicles are shipped through this method, but it is not the safest method to ship cars. In enclosed transportation, the vehicles ship inside an enclosed container. This method is common for classic vehicles. Here are mode differences between the two forms of transportation.

Open Car Transportation

The open carrier transportation method is common. These trailers have no walls, no ceiling, and no solid floor. You can use it to ship all types of vehicles regardless of their size. You can carry more than four vehicles on the same trailer, which makes the method more affordable for transporting over a long distance.

The main challenge with open car shipping is that your car is exposed to dirt and road debris and weather conditions. You will need to wash your car when you get to your new location. Although there are flying pebbles on the road, they will not damage your car as they only fly towards the front of the trailer and not to where the cars are.

The main advantage of this kind of transportation is availability and affordability. There are so many carriers offering open vehicle transportation everywhere around the country.

Enclosed Vehicle Transportation

Enclosed vehicle transportation is the safest type of transportation for luxury cars, sports cars, and classic cars. The method is more ideal when you have to move the vehicle during the winter months or in bad weather. Your vehicle will be more secure.

The carrier ships the cars in containers covered on all sides. You can only load up a few cars in the trailer, sometimes one car, but you can ship up to four cars in the same trailer. If you prefer this type of transportation, you will have to pay more since the trailer only carries a few vehicles. The truck driver may not have the chance to inspect the vehicle, but you are assured that your vehicle is safe from all weather conditions or the dirt on the road.

When you need to move your vehicle, choose a national transport company that offers both open and enclosed transportation.

Moving Vehicles by Air or By Train: Is It Safe?

It is safe to transport your car by plane. The plane is a type of enclosed carrier that protects your car from the weather and from flying debris. Your vehicle will be safe from all elements, and you will have it in the same condition you handed it to the carrier. However, plan vehicle transportation is very expensive and only a few people afford to do it. However, the method offers you great convenience as you can travel in the same plane as your car to save on the time it takes to look for a cab.

Rail freight is also a good option when you need to move your vehicle. The train has a section known as an auto-track where you pack cars. A train also offers enclosed transportation, which is safe for your car. However, you will still pay more for train freight compared to what you’d pay for trailer transportation.

Regardless of whether you choose open or enclosed transportation, you have to pick the right carrier service. This will ensure that your car is safe from not only road debris but also theft and accidents. Take your time and consider your vehicle’s safety beyond the cost.
