by Sophia Lee SEODifferent Types of Business. Different Fire Hazards
There
are several sorts of companies and commercial buildings. The NFPA classified
firms into eight categories based on their findings. These were the following:
●
Commercial Real Estate
●
Retail Stores & Merchants
●
Bars & Restaurants
●
Religious Landmarks
●
Schools
●
Facilities for Health Care
●
Property with Industrial or Manufacturing Uses
●
Warehouses
Some
of these business models are similar, while others are quite unlike. Cooking
equipment was shown to be the major cause of fires in several of the company
categories. These comprised business buildings, cafés and taverns, religious
buildings, and facilities for health care a tiny microwave or a big device,
such as an oven or deep fryer, can be used as cooking equipment.
Intentionally
lit fires were one element that stood out for two of the company categories.
Fires started on purpose were the most common cause of fires in schools and
warehouses. They were responsible for a whopping 38% of all school fires.
Industrial
and manufacturing firms were the only ones that differed from the rest in terms
of the primary cause of fires. Heating equipment, shop tools, and industrial
equipment were the major causes of fires, accounting for 14 percent of all
fires.
Which
Businesses Are The Most Affected By Fire?
The
bulk of fires occur in industrial and manufacturing facilities. Annually,
37,000 fires at industrial or manufacturing buildings are tended to by fire
services. Mechanical problems and equipment faults were the primary causes of
these fires.
With
13,570 fires each year, merchant and retail shops were a distant second. The
most prevalent cause of fires in these storefront companies was electrical
failure or malfunction. While fires were more prevalent during regular work
hours, property damage was higher at night when most businesses were closed,
which is unsurprising. These findings emphasize the necessity of having fire
safety and life safety equipment that is properly maintained and functional.
How
Much Damage Can Be Caused By A Fire Do?
Despite
the fact that warehouse fires are rare, they have the greatest average property
damage expenditures. The average cost of property damage in a warehouse fire is
128,099 dollars. A fire at a health care institution, on the other hand,
produces an average of $8,333 in damage.
Businesses
with higher concentrations of items, such as retail stores or warehouses, had
the highest property damage costs from fires. The only exception was burning in
religious buildings.
The
cost of property damage from religious fires was considerable, owing to the
properties being underutilized during the week. It's worth noting that when
sprinklers were installed in religious buildings, the average cost of property
damage decreased by 73%.
In
restaurants and health care institutions, there is a considerable danger of
fires caused by cooking equipment. Almost half of the fires in healthcare
facilities occurred in nursing homes, which had more cooking equipment. While
fires involving culinary equipment were more prevalent in these two types of
businesses, the damage was typically minor. This was mostly due to the presence
of a person or individuals at the time of the flames. When present and active,
kitchen fire suppression and fire sprinkler systems also assisted to decrease
the cost of damages.
