Chances are you have seen a multitude of photos on the internet with breath-taking beaches on an exotic island. It is highly likely social media is also full of influencers sipping a cocktail from a coconut, sitting on a white-sand beach, and soaking in the sun with no worries in the world. The fact is, there are many deals for island holidays, so this isn't an impossible location anymore, as it can be relatively affordable. So, if you plan on going to an island for the first time, it will probably feel as if you landed in heaven.

Many island destinations have a lot of attractions and activities available. Depending on the destination, you will be able to experience snorkeling, scuba diving, land trails through the forest, swim with dolphins, and so on. With so many things to see and the excitement to try everything, you can easily get overwhelmed. The important thing is finding a balance so you can relax and enjoy some quiet time, but also do many activities and immerse in the place’s culture and magic. Only this way can you truly make the most of your island vacation. For more specific tips on how to achieve this, read the following guide:

Enjoy a cruise around the island

Many islands belong to an archipelago, so going around them and being able to explore other stunning and wild beaches is an experience that you shouldn't miss. So, an excellent way of enjoying the island, no matter which location you choose, is by doing a cruise around it. Even if there are no other islands close to the one where you are spending the holiday, it could still be a memorable experience. For instance, you could rent a boat or charter a yacht so you can enjoy all the nearby attractions or if you simply want to relax in the sun and absorb the beauty around you. You can choose to have this experience for as long as you wish – whether it is a full day or you would like to spend a couple of days with your friends or family. You might want to have a romantic dinner at sunset, plan a party, or rent it for a longer period so you can make the most of your surroundings. Either way, a brief cruise around the island can be an experience you will never forget.

Try water sports

If you travel to an island, it is almost a must to try a water sport. There are many options from which you can choose, depending on how courageous you are. There is something for everyone, from snorkeling, scuba diving to parasailing and wakeboarding or water skiing. Therefore, no matter if you feel like some water sports are too much for you, there are still others you can try that are not so intimidating. The advantage is that any water sport or activity on an exotic island is worthwhile and memorable in its own way, and you should try one at least once in your lifetime. So, you cannot go wrong with anything. If you are undecided about what water sports to try, here are some of the most famous and in high demand:

  • Scuba diving: This activity requires a piece of underwater breathing equipment, and it is vital you are assisted at all times, as you are diving deep within the water, and it can come with health risks if not done correctly and with professional guidance.

  • Snorkeling: To do this, you only need a special mask. When you go snorkeling, you remain close to the water's surface, so you don't need special equipment or guided assistance. You can witness the underwater world, from coral reefs to all kinds of marine life.

  • Wakeboarding/waterskiing: To practice this sport, you need to be strapped to skies or a board specially made for water. It is vital you get a few lessons from an expert who can teach you how to stand up and maintain your balance when the boat starts pulling you.

Sit back and relax

Indeed, there are many activities and experiences you must try when you travel to an island for probably a lot of hours. So, you will probably regret it if you don't try at least one water sport to make the most of your holiday. However, when you see yourself surrounded by peacefulness and you can sit on the soft sand of a tropical beach, reading while listening to the waves, it is equally important to stay in the moment and enjoy the quiet to recharge your batteries. It is easy to get carries away and want to try everything when you are in a location like this, but don’t forget to make time for yourself and just relax. After all, the important thing is to do whatever feels beneficial for you and do it at your own pace.

To take advantage of your stay on an exotic island, you should try both accommodation options: on the beach or the water. With the latter one, you can enjoy ocean views right from your bedroom. Not to mention, you can simply jump into the water from the villa you are staying at, which is an incredible experience. Similarly, if your accommodation is on the beach, you feel as if the beach is your backyard – you can enjoy it at every moment and truly feel you are in paradise.

Do a digital detox

To make the most of your stay on an island, it is recommended you do a digital detox. When you are surrounded by beautiful scenery, checking your social media seems unnecessary. So, it is vital you let go of your habits while you are on vacation and allow yourself to be present. Whether you choose to try as many water sports as you can, go on a hike, rent a boat to visit the surroundings or relax, the important thing is to enjoy your stay to the fullest and gather memories with your travel buddies. A noteworthy mention would be not to forget to take many photos to capture every moment, as you’ll want to remember this!
