Clarified butter vs ghee: What are the basic differences

by Milkio Foods Grass-Fed ghee from New Zealand

Both ghee and clarified butter are often considered to be the same product. But clarified butter vs ghee is a popular term that indicates the difference between the two. In this article, we will discuss ghee and clarified butter distinctions. As we all know both are made from the same milk but the only difference is the cooking timing.

Clarified butter vs ghee

Ghee is cooked a few more times than clarified butter. You may have noticed ghee gas brown color and granular texture. This I'd because the milk solids in butter are caramelized and they become granular. But while making clarified butter the milk solids are strained through a strainer leaving behind the pure butterfat. Clarified butter is creamy in texture and has a light golden color. The nutritional value of both products is the same.

However, dairy-sensitive people should go for clarified butter as it's completely lactose and casein-free. Ghee has a nutty flavor while clarified butter has milk and milky flavor. Depending on your taste preference you can choose anyone. Always prefer to purchase organic grass-fed ghee which is completely natural and made from grass-fed cow's milk only. Ghee can be purchased online as well as from local stores.
