Body Waxing- Tips For Before & Aftercare

by Eva Spenser Innovation

Waxing indeed helps to soften and smoothen your skin, by leaving it hair-free. But there are enough horror stories about waxing circulating to make any first-timer nervous.

So, the question here is what you can do to firstly ensure the wax job last longer and secondly make your first experience comfortable, rather than horrifying.

This post complies some before and aftercare body waxing tips from practitioners in Hobart and will serve as your apt knowledge base!

Tips To Follow Before Waxing

  • Look to slightly trim your hair prior to your waxing appointment. If this is your first time, then keep hair not more than 1.5 cm long. The longer the hair, the more painful and frightening will be your waxing experience.
  • Properly exfoliate the area you want to wax at least 48 hours prior to the appointment. This allows you to keep your skin soft and smooth. Plus, it also helps restrict ingrown hair.
  • On the day of your appointment, bathe or shower with cold water. Not only will this help open the follicles but make removing hair easier.
  • Refrain from using any deodorants, body lotions, perfumes or self-tanning products on the area you plan to wax.
  • You can also take 1-2 paracetamol 30-45 minutes before your waxing session.
  • Lastly, drink plenty of water.

Tips To Follow After Waxing

  • You can expect the waxed area to be red and sensitive to touch. Some blood spots can also form due to the removal of courser or thicker hair.
  • As the waxed area will tingle you slightly, avoid exfoliating, palming or even scratching.
  • Shower with cold water. But avoid applying soap or bathing scrub. Allow the cold water to come in contact with the sensitive area. It will grant you some relief.
  • Avoid activities which make you sweat or cause friction over the waxed surface. This includes exercising, running, heavy lifting, etc.
  • Avoid sunbathing or any form of UV exposure. If you have to go out, wear free-flowing clothes to avoid the heat from irritating the waxed area.
  • To soothe the sensitive area; you can use Aloe Vera gel which helps rehydrate the skin and eliminate any tingling sensation. Another good alternative to Aloe Vera is Tea Tree Oil which soothes the skin and keeps it protected from germs and bacteria.
  • Avoid using deodorant, powders, lotions or any other self-tanning products that you usually use temporarily.
  • Avoid going to sauna or sweat rooms.
  • Drink plenty of water.

3-10 Days after Your 1st Waxing

After a week of your 1st waxing session; your skin will start to close over the follicles, thus lessening its sensitivity and tingling sensation. So, after 10 days, you can exfoliate gently using a nourishing moisturiser.
