3 Ways To Make Your Next Event Or Festival More Sustainable

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

Major events like festivals have long been notorious for their adverse environmental impact. Were you aware, for example, that about 23,500 tonnes of waste are generated by British festivals every year? It’s just one statistic indicating what a major job organisers have on their hands when it comes to giving their own event genuinely eco-friendly credentials.

Fortunately, there’s a lot that you can do to make your own next big event a thoroughly ‘green’ one. Here are a few of our favourites, as may be surprisingly easy to implement in some cases.

  1. Encourage sustainable transport choices

You may be providing some means of getting your attendees to and from the event regardless, so why not make clear in your event communications that you endorse the most sustainable methods of getting there?

Consider arranging dedicated coaches for transporting attendees from major cities to your event, as an alternative to everyone travelling in their own cars. Also consider situating your event somewhere that lends itself well to walking and cycling.

  1. Choose an environmentally responsible venue

Partnering with a venue that lacks a written environmental policy, or that may have even attracted negative headlines in the recent past due to poor sustainability practices, is a sure way of killing your event’s ‘green’ billing from the outset.

So, make sure your chosen venue has a strong reputation in this respect – perhaps one that has won awards and accreditations for its environmental policies. Also only use a venue that is as large as necessary, given that bigger venues will obviously use more power.

The sight of a sea of disposable cups strewn over the ground at your venue once the event is over will hardly do much to enhance your organisation’s sustainability record.

So instead of ordering cups in bulk that will simply add to the litter your event produces, why not invest in Eco-Friendly Cups that can be reused time and time again, and that are attractive enough for many of your attendees to inevitably wish to keep theirs as a souvenir of their time with you?

There’s much more to think about, though

Naturally, the above are just some of the steps that you can take to minimise your event’s impact on the only planet we have. The actual food and beverage that you serve at the event can be sustainable too, for instance, while you can save card and paper by switching to an electronic ticketing system and doing the event planning with the help of technological devices and apps.

  1. Invest in eco-friendly cups

Here at Branded Cups, though, we’re all about supplying the Eco-Friendly Cups that won’t just help to better preserve our precious Earth, but will also go a long way to enhance your brand.
