The Jeffersons was orginally shown on CBS on Jaunary 18, 1975, soon to be 32 years ago. The show lasted a whopping 11 seasons, with 253 episodes! It is the standing, longest running comedy with a predominately African American Cast.
I love so many of the sitcoms from the 60's and 70's, that it is rather hard to narrow down my top 10 favorite count. The Jeffersons, hands down, is in my top 10 favorite comedy sitcoms.

Personal note:
Our family business used to be located right off of the Pacific Coast Highway. We were fortunate to meet quite a few Hollywood stars passing by, for many years.
Sherman Hemsley stopped by once. He is one of the nicest people that you ever want to meet. Extremley down to earth, and appeard to be rather shy, unlike his character on the Jeffersons. What an honor to meet such a talented and nice guy!

LOL! :) One of my favorite episodes was when George was in the doghouse with Weezy and had to be nice to her mother... He was on the telephone with a florist who was about to close and was pleading for a Mothers Day bunch of flowers to be delivered or he, "Would get no peace!" Weezy looked straight at him with "That Look", and said, coldly 'You can say THAT again!" I laffed for days, and still do when i think of the one! :) Dec 4th 2007 15:51 |

George and Weezy were neighbors of everyone's favorite bigot Archie Bunker and his "dingbat" wife Edith.
The Jefferson cleaners chain of dry cleaning stores.
The maid was named Florence and she went on to start in 227 along with "Weeping Wanda" from Good times.
Mr Bentley was the British neighbor. And the Jeffersons shared a grandchild with their upstairs neighbors the Willises. Helen Willis was played by Roxie Roker the mother of Rock star Lennie Kravitz.
