by Ravi Singh Rana Digital Marketer

The naked design gives Yamaha MT 15 a bold look. However, this bike is not only about good looks. There are several other aspects which make Yamaha MT 15 bike a great package. Below are the crucial details about the new naked bike.

The MT 15 gets new colors, rear radial tyre, and a side-stand engine cut-off feature. It is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes 18.5hp and 13.9Nm, mated to a 6-speed transmission. The kerb weight of the motorcycle remains the same as the BS6 model, at 138kg. It comes equipped with 282mm and 220m disc brakes at both ends with single-channel ABS. Other features include an all-LED headlamp, tail-lamp and a digital instrument console.

Engine

Yamaha MT 15 gets a 155 cc, liquid cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, four-valve engine. The motor delivers 19.3 PS at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission. There is an A&S (assist and slipper) clutch as well.

Chassis

Yamaha MT 15 gets a Deltabox frame. The suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks at the front and a swingarm (link suspension) at the rear. There were expectations that the naked bike will get a dual channel ABS. But the company has provided the all-new MT 15 with only a single channel ABS. There is a 282 mm hydraulic single disc at the front, with a 220 mm hydraulic single disc at the rear.

Dimensions

Yamaha MT 15 has a length of 2,020 mm. The width and height are 800 mm and 1,070 mm, respectively. While it gets a seat height of 810 mm, the wheel base is 1,335 mm. The ground clearance is 155 mm. The new naked bike has a fuel tank capacity of 10 litres and engine oil capacity of 1.05 litres. The curb weight (including full oil and fuel tank) is 138 kg.

Features

Yamaha MT 15 comes in with bi-functional LED headlights. It gets a multifunctional negative instrument cluster (LCD display) with shift light, VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) and mileage indicators. The raised LED tail light gives the naked bike a unique look as well.

Rivals

Yamaha MT 15 will challenge the likes of TVS Apache RTR 200 4V ABS R 2.0, Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 ABS and KTM 125 Duke. While TVS Apache RTR 200 4V ABS R 2.0 is priced at Rs 1.11 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 ABS and KTM 125 Duke are priced at Rs 1.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and 1.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively.

Braking and Safety

Braking duties on the Yamaha MT 15 are taken care of with the help of a 282mm disc brake up front along with a 220mm disc brake at the rear. The bike gets a single-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) which means that the safety equipment works on the front wheel only. Furthermore, the bike gets an all LED headlamp that offers better illumination than a regular halogen unit.

Transmission

The engine on the Yamaha MT 15 BS6 is mated to a six-speed transmission. The gearbox has a one-down, five-up shifting pattern like rest of the motorcycles. The gearshifts are smooth and precise and you will hardly find any false neutrals.
