WHEN SHOULD YOU TAKE THE HOSPITAL TOUR WHEN PREGNANT?

by Meenakshi R. Consultant

Is your due date approaching and you are excited to bring your newborn in this world? Is there still some anxiety about whether everything will go in an orderly fashion? Every parent-to-be wishes that the birthing time be absolutely perfect, without any glitches on the way. Parents take every necessary step required to make the journey easier. They read ton loads of magazines and books on pregnancy and childbirth, with fancy titles (‘what to expect when expecting’), attend several classes and talks to get training regarding the same, etc. Birthing is a beautiful journey and every parent wishes that everything goes just perfect. Also, it is essential for a would-be mother to know that everything is in control and taken care of so that when she goes into labour, all she needs to focus on is herself and the baby.

Maternity Care

As mentioned earlier there are a lot of ways that parents adapt to make the journey easier. They read books, take classes, watch videos, and consult the doctor about everything on regular basis. There is one more thing that can be done to help them feel less anxious, that is a tour of the maternity hospital. A hospital tour can be of help to a great extent. It is good to get acquainted with the place you plan to give birth to your baby in. This helps reduce pre-birth anxiety and helps calm the mother down a notch. Every maternity hospital these days arrange for hospital tours for all would-be mothers at least once a week. You can get yourself registered for one of them and be a part of the tour. The best time to take a tour is a couple of weeks before your due date. If you are planning to go for different options, it is better to get an early start on the same.

During the tour, the parents-to-be are assisted around the hospital by a trained professional of the hospital or their own Ob-Gyn. The staff guides them through the entire process starting from registrations to admissions. The hospital makes sure that their patients know where they can get the exact information and help they need during different stages of pregnancy. They guide you through the different facilities that are available in the hospital related to labour and childbirth. You can go through the entire place and familiarise yourself with everything. During the tour, you get to meet a lot of different staff members as well. Having familiar faces during those deadly labour pains is any day better than a fully strange crowd. Though the staff provides all the information that is needed to be known, one should not hesitate on asking any other question that comes in mind.

Some women lose their calm when they are in delivery rooms after listening to the crying and screaming that is going on. For those people, it is necessary to check with the hospital if there is a facility of private rooms or not. Though the screaming and crying are bound to make one nervous, one should know that it is just a process leading to a beautiful destination.
