Maintaining a Healthy Pregnancy

The health of the mother determines the health of the child to be born. If you eat well, stay positive and keep yourself fit, there are no chances of complications in the entire duration of your pregnancy.





Eating Habits

The diet plays a very important role during pregnancy. You must ensure that all the required nutrients are present in your everyday meals. The intake of fresh fruits, vegetables and a lot of fibres are good for a healthy pregnancy diet.


Keep Yourself Hydrated

Drink a lot of water during pregnancy. The fluid intake is very much needed during this time. Your baby also gets the nutrients you take through the cord attached to the embryo. Drinking lots of water keeps the baby as well as you hydrated at all times.


Exercises

Keeping yourself fit is of primary importance during the entire duration of pregnancy. Doing exercises which are suitable for pregnancy is good for your overall fitness. It keeps you on the move always and helps to keep away the pain which may occur otherwise. Exercises during pregnancy keeps you healthy and also eases your labor. Make sure you do the exercises moderately and not in excess so that the growing baby inside your body is not affected in any way.


Yoga

Prenatal yoga has gained importance over time. It helps expecting mothers to understand their pregnancy better and helps to stay fit. With more focus on breathing and posture, you are kept fit and it helps to ease your morning sickness and fatigue which are quite common during the peak of pregnancy.


Vitamin Intake

If you keep your diet proper, you are likely to get most of the required vitamins. But during pregnancy, you need more vitamins than normal. For this, you can take vitamin supplements as suggested by your Gynecologist. Folic acid with Vitamin B is very vital for pregnant women.



Cut the Caffeine

Avoid coffee intake during your pregnancy. If not, then maximum a cup or 2 of coffee. Excess caffeine when pregnant may increase the chances of miscarriage.


No smoking

Smoking is a strict no-no during pregnancy. It affects the health of your unborn child very badly. There are increased chances of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) amongst the newborn babies of women who smoke during pregnancy. Moreover, tobacco also leads to miscarriages, premature births and many other health defects in the child to be born.


Reduce Stress and Sleep More

You may feel more tired when pregnant. It is suggested that you get at least 8 hours of sleep daily when you are pregnant. Lying to your side will be most suitable position to sleep as your baby grows bigger.


Avoid Alcohol

Intake of alcohol during pregnancy is very injurious to the health of the mother and the child. It causes birth defects if taken in excess. The unborn baby cannot flush out the alcohol thus it remains inside the baby’s body causing harm to the fetus.
