What are the Main Components of a Home Theatre System?
Why do you need a home theatre system? The answer is- for a high definition picture and engaging surround sound. If you are planning to build your own system instead of purchasing a pre-packaged system then you should be familiar with all the components you will need to build a system of your own. Here are the different components that make a complete home theatre system:
A television: A beautiful picture is the center of most of the home theatre systems. You can get this from the range of high definition televisions available in the market. They offer amazing high resolution pictures giving you a stunning visual experience. In fact, some of these systems also offer a 3D experience right at the comfort of your own home. For a 3D experience you will need a 3D Blu-ray player and glasses.
Video sources: If you have a high definition television you need some high definition sources like a Blu-ray player, high definition Blu-ray discs, HDTV programming and video game consoles. While the Blu-ray player offers sharp pictures, the Blu-ray discs give you full 1080p video. HDTV programming provides high resolution video and digital audio and video game consoles offer high impact surround sound.
Receiver: A home theatre receiver lets you enjoy the best surround sound. It is the control centre for audio that processes audio signals, amplifies them and sends them to the speakers. The built-in surround sound decoding in these receivers can process and amplify multi channel surround sound and stereo audio. In some cases the home theatre receivers are used to manage both audio and video.
Speakers and subwoofer: To add the movie theatre sound and feel make sure you have at least five speakers and a subwoofer. Some people also go for six or seven speakers and a subwoofer for better surround sound.
Cables, remote and power protection: Accessories like audio and video cables, universal remote controls and power protection units are some of the most essential accessories that are often overlooked or forgotten. Failing to buy the right accessories will not give you the kind of performance you are expecting at the prices paid.
A/V furniture and stand: You need to buy furniture and stands to place these devices depending on the type of the system you are installing and the size of your room. Make sure you have these ahead of time so that you don’t have to place the devices on floor until you get the right furniture.
