A Guide to Restaurant Sound System Installation

by Kinna Audio Audio installation

For facilities like restaurants and bars, the importance of good music and an excellent sound system cannot be denied. Especially, if you own a karaoke bar or a dance club, then good music is as important as good food. Buying a high quality sound system for your restaurant can be daunting with the overdose of all the audiophile jargon that floods the web. Here’s a simple guide to things that you should look into when buying an audio system for a restaurant or bar:

Take the correct measurement of the facility: The first and the most important thing you need to do when installing sound system in your restaurant is taking the measurement correctly. Background music system is not based on high fidelity reproduction. What you need to do is measure the height of the ceiling and multiplies it twice to determine the ideal space that should be present between two speakers. For instance, if the height of the ceiling at your place is 10 feet, then make sure that the speakers are placed at a distance of 20 feet.

Install a distributed audio system: In places like restaurants that require the music to be played continuously, distributed audio installations is recommended. In this system, a 70 volt sound system is installed and each speaker uses a transformer to create the right balance in the audio quality. When you tap the speaker at 1 watt rather than 4 watt, the speaker will produce sound that is 6db softer than the latter.

A high quality source device: Another thing to keep in mind is that good music comes from a good source. The source device is by far the most important element of the PA system. No doubt, the speakers and amplifiers are responsible for keeping the audio signals clear but not even the top level audio gear can do much if you are playing the audio from a gimcrack source device.

Good quality hardware: Make sure you are installing high quality hardware like amplifier, speakers and mixer. You will need a mixer at your facility if you want to mix multiple sources at once and an amplifier is used to enhance the signal to ensure that the volume is loud enough for your space. Check the wattage before buying an amplifier. The higher the wattage, the louder is the music. On the other hand, when you are buying speakers keep into account the size and weight of the devices.
