Buying and setting up your home theatre system is a tricky affair. The availability of endless audio and video products makes the decision further complicated. However, when installing a home theatre system you have to be extremely careful about the spaces, setups and wiring. Here are a few tips and tricks on buying and handling home theatre system that will give you an amazing audio video experience:

Search online: Look online if you want discounted items without compromising on quality. There are several sites and forums that will offer genuine reviews and help you to educate yourself before making a purchase decision. Do your own research and make sure to check in person that the system offers amazing sound and video quality.

Determine the type of speaker gauge: Find out what is the right type of speaker cable gauge and wire size for your speakers. For most applications a 16 gauge wire is used ideally. But if you have surround speakers with over 50 feet of wire or in-ceiling speakers then you can consider 14 gauge or 12 gauge wires. You have to simply ensure that it fits in the connection you are using.

Leave enough slack for future upgradation: While installing cables (speaker cables, HDMI cables or network cables) make sure there is enough slack to take the equipment in and out and make the movement of equipment or peripherals easier. For equipment that are placed on stands or racks make sure that the slack is double. If you want to change the position of your gear in the future you will realize that there is not enough cabling making it difficult to move the devices from top to bottom or vice versa.

Label the wires correctly: Don’t forget to label the wires using a label maker or a Sharpie. While labeling your wires make sure that this is done in such a way that even if you need to cut or trim the ends of the cable you won’t lose the labels. Also make sure that the wires are labeled at both the receiver and the speaker ends. When you do this it becomes easier for you to make connections when you want to upgrade your speakers or receiver and you can easily determine where each cable needs to be put.
