Veteran actor Anupam Kher shares about his book with Suhel Seth
by chandra joshi i m bloggerThis pandemic
lockdown has given individuals an opportunity to explore their creative side
and other aspects of their personality that they never knew existed. Be it the
common man or celebrities, with everyone locked up indoors, new activities have
been taken up. In a recent webinar organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce,
actor Anupam Kher talks about his book “Your
Best Day Is Today” wherein he wrote about the pandemic, lockdown and how he
dealt with it. The webinar was moderated by columnist, actor and businessman Suhel Seth.
The session started
with Suhel Seth hosting and welcoming actor Anupam Kher, congratulating him for
the book release, followed by Kher sharing how he was fearful and wrote the
book out of uncertainty. He believed that writing this book would be the only
silver lining through the dark times of pandemic that everyone was going
through. The lockdown had indeed taken a toll on everyone across the world and
made many of us aware of our surroundings and nature.
“For the first time
in 39 years I could hear the sound of birds and see blue skies in Mumbai” Kher
adds, and shares how the process of writing the book helped him feel better
about the tough times. He recollects how the start of the lockdown had everyone
panicking and buying all the essential commodities at once, trying to get home
to the families, and with the fear of losing jobs deeply seeded in all. “The
process had started with fear but ended with optimism,” says Kher.
Suhel Seth also adds a powerful
line from our Bhagavad Gita which says, “you have the right to perform all your
duties but, you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions” while talking
about how Indians were able to withstand the crisis due to the teachings of our
ancient culture, scriptures and philosophy that go back thousands of years.
Seth brings up the
point of how the pandemic has also brought families closer and been helpful in
providing quality time with each other. It has also given people the
opportunity to explore and showcase their talent via social media.
Anupam Kher states
that there are too many people that will be critical of you even if you help
someone but it is always better to ignore such people and feel proud of your
efforts. He adds that he realized he is not that impatient and restless as he
thought he was. There is a chapter about death in this book. He used to fear
death earlier. But now feels liberated and listens more to people around him.
The session ended
with Anupam Kher asking Indians to celebrate being Indian and adds,“Be vocal
about being an Indian.”
