Understanding Royal Arch Masonry for staying true to Freemasonry vision
Freemasonry
is a fraternal organization that encourages its every member to be a better
individual and follow the path of constant learning at every stage. In old
times, they worked as operative Masons; they used words and signs to identify
themselves while travelling from one building to another so that there is no
misrepresentation. Later, these words and signs came to be known as the secrets
of Freemasonry. This fraternal organization is free to men of all faiths, races
and social status. It is no longer a society of operative Masons but still the entire
brotherhood share an interest in the old craft. The members of this society
believe in the core principles; truth, relief and brotherly love. Masonic
regalia are a way of reminding them of what their brotherhood believes in. With
these regalia pieces staying true to their brotherhood's visions becomes
easier.
There
are many Freemasonry Lodges in different parts of the world and all of them and
their workings are governed by the Grand Lodges. Also, every Freemason has to
progress through three different degrees namely Entered Apprentice, Fellow
Craft and Master Mason. Moreover, there are many other orders and degrees
besides these three main degrees. Each of these degrees has their own set of
principles, teachings and ceremonies associated to them. Apart from the three
main degrees, all other degrees expand the teachings of these main degrees
only. Some of these degrees and orders include Royal Arch, Crptic Mason and
Christian Chivalry among others.
In
this article we’ll discuss about Royal Arch Masonry:
Royal
Arch Masonry
Freemasons
who have attained the degree of a Master Mason with a period of four wee3ks
standing in a legally constituted Lodge are entitled to join Royal Arch
Masonry. The degree of Master Mason is deemed complete when the Mason has been
exalted into a Royal Arch Chapter. Members of Royal Arch are known as
Companions and they meet Chapters. Royal Arch Masonry is considered as the continuation of Craft
Freemasonry and the first documented evidence of it comes from Ireland in 1743.
It is also regarded as the fourth degree by the Antients in England whereas the
Moderns didn’t officially recognized Royal Arch degree at all. These
differences were resolved although not completely by the Union of Grand Lodges and
by a compromise it was declared as the official and accepted part of the ‘Pure
and Ancient Freemasonry’. Men of all religions and faiths are free to join
Royal Arch Masonry.
