The Rock and Emily Blunt Starrer Jungle Cruise Releases Trailer

by Ashley Miller Engineer

Disney has several significant projects and releases coming in the upcoming years, and it recently dropped a trailer for Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Emily Blunt. The duo is set to sail on an adventure in the adaptation of the Jungle Cruise theme park ride. It all started back in 2013 when Disney landed an unexpected hit with the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The film was based on its theme park; however, ever since then, Disney has failed to hit the bulls-eye.

A movie on Jungle Cruise was talked about way back in 2006 when the creators of Smallville Miles Millar and Alfred Gough rewrote an old script by John Norville alongside Josh Goldstein. The talk cooled down after that until, in 2011, a new version of the film started proceeding. The movie would feature Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, the duo from the Toy Story franchise. A few years forward, and we have another movie redevelopment at our hands, this time featuring Dwayne and Emily.

The couple will star as Lily and Frank, a focused British explorer and a charming American riverboat captain. The duo is in the quest amidst the Amazon jungle for a mythical tree that has extraordinary healing properties. We recently received an official trailer for the same before the release of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. This seems fitting as the flick is releasing on Jungle Cruise’s previously decided date before it was pushed back to 2020.

The trailer for Jungle Cruise oozes a feel familiar to the Pirates of the Caribbean with the references to its main adventure ride and pseudo slapstick action. The majority of the clip was screened already at the August held D23 Expo. The clips, down to the scene where Frank tries to fool his customers by employing actors to attack them in the getup of natives, were re-shown from the expo. This seems like a decent medium to pay homage to its theme park ride while also readjusting its regressive and outdated aspects. And like teased in the trailer, Frank will soon find out just how real the legends regarding the Amazon Jungle are.

Jaume Collet-Serra, best-known for his work in Non-Stop The Shallows will be directing the movie. The movie looks promising, but it has several aspects that can put adverse effects on it. For instance, a jungle adventure starring The Rock seems a little less than the original with Jumanji is on its way. Disney has had several action-adventure hits like The Mummy, Indiana Jones, and Romancing the Stone under its belt, so expecting another hit from them is not too surprising. The movie will nonetheless be a welcome break from Disney’s back-to-back live-action remakes in 2020.
