The roads of Pune

by Luxury Hotels Luxury Hotels

Pune is a vibrant and thriving metropolis. It is the perfect example of the ‘New India’ with its mix of ancient and modern, or capitalism and spiritualism. The word ‘Pune’ translates to virtue. It used to be known as the ‘veritable heartland’ of Maharashtra. Pune was initially the capital of the Shivaji and the ruling Peshwas. The city was overtaken by the British in 1817 and was made Bombay Presidency’s monsoon capital, due to its cool and dry climate.

The city, despite going through a major image overhaul in the 90s, retains some colonial-era charm in the old buildings and certain residential areas. The old charm can also be seen in neighbourhoods that house 5-star luxury hotels in Pune

The roads of Pune reflect the peaceful coexistence of the old and new, which makes Pune an extraordinary place to explore. Some roads that shouldn't be missed are:

Laxmi Road

A one-stop shopping stop, Laxmi Road is one of the longest streets in Pune. It is a commercial hub, with a wide variety of merchandise that does not pinch your wallet. It is the best venue to shop at during Diwali, Laxmi Puja, Gudi Padwa, and the Ganpati festival. Weekends are a good time to traverse down this road, though it might be crowded. The road is closed on Mondays.

Tilak Road

The Tilak Road is the second longest commercial road in Pune. It starts right from where the well-known Laxmi Road ends. The road is famous for commercial shops, home shopping, electronic dealers, and banks.

FC Road

SB Road

The ancient Chaturshingi Devi temple is also on this road. The huge infrastructure on this road gives it a very modern feel.
