Pune is the second largest city and is the cultural capital of Maharashtra. This place has a rich history attached to it and is evident by the various monuments that are found here. The museums in Pune have artefacts of the past and the present and is always a wonder to see. The city is also famous for the various flora and fauna, which are quite interesting to note. The Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is a building that is constructed in Rajasthani style of architecture and houses almost 15,000 objects. It was built in the memory of the Dr. Dinkar G Kelkar’s son. One can find sculptures dating back to the 14 century. It is a storehouse of artefacts created by artisans of those times. Walk around the museum and see the various ornaments made of gold, ivory and silver. Musical instruments, vessels and war weapons are also part of the museum.

The Tribal Museum houses the cultural aspects of the tribal communities of Gondwana and Sahyadari regions. It depicts items like pictures, artefacts, musical instruments, handicrafts, wash paintings, textiles, jewellery, ornaments, weapons and clothes used by the tribal people. The museum aimed to preserve the various elements of the tribal for future generations.

The Mahatma Phule Museum was founded in 1890 and contains pictures, models, charts, science models and machines. The objects placed in the museum are related armoury, agriculture, engineering, handicrafts, cottage industries, natural history, geology and minerals. The armoury section displays weapons relating to the Mughal and Maratha periods. The charts are about the various forts that are found in Pune. A taxidermy collection of diverse species of birds, animals, fishes and insects are found in the natural history section.

The National War memorial, constructed near India Gate in New Delhi is built as a tribute to soldiers who had fought bravely for the country. It consists of four concentric circles namely, Amar, Veerta, Tyaga, Suraksha Chakra and in the middle is a central obelisk which is 15 meters tall. The obelisk has the eternal flame, stone and bronze murals, graphic panels and busts of the 21 Param Veer Chakra awardees.

Bhimshankar Wildlife Sanctuary is made entirely of basaltic rocks, Semi-evergreen, Evergreen and Deciduous types of forests. The tributaries of river Krishna, which are Ghod and Bhima provide a source of water for the flora and fauna. It is a paradise consisting of hills and water falls and is home to the giant flying squirrel which is an endangered species. There are plenty of bird species like the quaker babbler, grey junglefowl, green pigeon, grey hornbill, and small sunbird. The plants that can be seen here are the behda, hirda, jamun, and mango. There are also trees which have bioluminescent fungi present on them.

Pune is an exquisite place to visit. There are many historical monuments, camping sites, museums, lakes, forts, parks, amusement park, water parks, Pune has many interesting things to see and one should definitely make some time to visit this place.
