Summary Notes of Article:

  • Today, the cloud is a very important tool that almost every person and company use on a daily basis.

  • According to a report by Verizon, the cloud is a fundamental part of IT departments within their businesses.

  • However, if the cloud is so important and is so familiar to most companies, why is only 2 to 3% of enterprise workloads in public clouds according to some stats?

  • One of the under-count factors in the small public cloud usage percentage is in regards to shadow IT. Employees use several cloud services on their devices, which will interact with corporate IT eventually, without IT’s knowledge and/or approval, and because of this, these uses of the public cloud aren’t being counted by analysts in their stats.

  • There are some companies who still claim factors like regulatory issues, security and control to justify their decision to not move into the public cloud. Instead, they’re approaching the private cloud first.

  • IT departments should realize that the public cloud isn’t so “dangerous” like they think and that with proper security measures it’s a powerful resource that can be leveraged.

  • In conclusion, the stats of public cloud adoption are tiny. However, it doesn’t mean that the public cloud isn’t something that we all use every day both for working and personal purposes.
