Summary Notes of Article:

  • In the past year, we have witnessed numerous mergers and acquisitions in the cloud computing business. However, Forrester Research predicts it isn’t over yet.

  • On their report “Predictions 2016: The Cloud Accelerates”, they say this consolidation will accelerate in the next year.

  • In 2015, many big companies were acquiring other ones to succeed in the cloud business. For example, IBM acquired Blue Box, Cleversafe and Gravitant. Other companies who made several deals were Datapipe, HP and Cisco. Also we heard about Dell buying EMC for $67 billion.

  • Another prediction by Forrester is that Google will finally have better results next year. Digital Ocean and Aliyun will have a hard time in gaining more market share.

  • Forrester stated that by the end of 2016, fewer competitors will remain in the public cloud infrastructure market. That’s why they recommend users to stick to AWS or Azure.

  • The two giants keep grabbing market share, because they are constantly innovating and adding tools that are valuable for their clients.

  • Glenn O’Donnell, VP and research director at Forrester, said that Microsoft and Amazon are leaders, but IBM is still the provider of choice for some customers.

  • A bold suggestion made by Forrester was to ditch providers that are lagging behind, no matter how much you’ve invested in their services.

  • Another statement by the research company is that users should ask cloud providers to reveal their cloud computing business revenue, like AWS is doing.
