Summary Notes of Article:
- At AWS re:Invent, Amazon announced its first hardware, called AWS Import/Export Snowball.
- This device has a 50TB capacity, where you can store your data and ship it to Amazon. This would be a cheap and fast solution to upload large amounts of information into their cloud.
- This is another tactic used by AWS to lure enterprise IT to its cloud.
- Another hot topic at re:Invent was Internet of Things (IoT). Amazon has developed a platform dedicated to it, which comes as the perfect complement to the already existing applications offered by AWS. Jassy and Vogels remarked the importance of the IoT in regards to the analysis results that the data captured can reveal.
- It seems like Amazon is giving us the message that if you want to build for the future, their cloud is the place to do it.
- AWS possesses a great variety of services and an incredible infrastructure to back them up, which is very appealing to developers.
- Accenture managing director, Michael Liebow, thinks the figure of cloud admins would benefit enterprises in regards to cost-effectively managing cloud services.
- Although AWS is a $7.3 billion business, its competitors are making bigger revenues.
- IBM and Microsoft support hybrid cloud environments. Amazon doesn’t. This is especially important if we think of the costs of running workloads in the public cloud. With the hybrid choice, companies can decide whether it is cost-effective to run an application in the public cloud or not.
- AWS remains a great choice for enterprises.
