Separation Anxiety Issues in Pet Cats in Premium Apartments in Central Kolkata
by Avani Rai THE 42The idea of cat separation anxiety is very new in the field of
research. The empirical studies have only just begun on this issue. But the
residents of premium apartments in Central Kolkata or anywhere, who own
a pet cat will understand the practicality of such anxiety in cats. Many
researchers are now being able to see the signs. There are two incidents I am
going to share to explain cat separation anxiety a bit easily.
Incident 1
My friend had a cat called Femi for 4 years. His parents were
divorced at that time. About 3 years back, his parents got together again and
they moved to their new ultra-luxurious residential property. Around
this time, Femi was detached and maintained a strategic distance from his
father at first. When she understood the father was there to stay, she began
accepting him.
In the beginning, the acceptance rate was quite slow. However,
gradually she reached a point where she would lay on his lap. The father was
retired and only looking after his business. He would leave the house occasionally.
After some time, my friend noticed that when his father was away, Femi would
prepare herself exorbitantly. When his father came home, the extreme prepping
up would stop.
Few days later, his father was basically looking after the
business from home. This was when my friend and his parents would be away for
2-3 days every other week. On their arrival, they found that Femi had puked all
around the house, even on their bed. They also noticed that every time they
would bring out their bags to pack for their excursion, Femi would hide under
the bed, or the couch, or under the table to stay away from them.
Incident 2
Goofy was a stray cat whom my friend found many years after they
had moved into their new apartment. He was probably about one year old. It took
a while, however, Femi and Goofy turned out to be best of pals. The main sign
with goofy was that on their arrival he would not hide out of sight. He was
rather clingy- if they will go to the washroom, he needed to be there as well.
He would walk with them, rubbing up against them, and be near them always.
Empirical data
In a research, these are indications of separation anxiety in
felines. The speculated reasons run from hereditary to ecological elements
being involved. Some say being stranded or being weaned early may introduce the
advancement of separation anxiety. As many researchers are studying this
subject on a daily basis- they may find their activities subjective. The motto
should be to have the veterinarian complete a total physical check up to ensure
that the behaviour isn't caused by some hidden physical issue. This will
possibly include blood work, urinalysis, thyroid testing, or a blood pressure
check.
Having a feline in the premium apartments in Central Kolkata
is quite a daunting task. Try and take care of their health on a whole.
