The criminal justice systems of the world have benefited from the increased use of technology solutions in their operations. These offender management systems have made it possible for the administrators of the correctional facilities that serve the criminal justice systems to be more efficient in the execution of their tasks. These systems have been in use for a while now, and there have been concerted efforts to improve upon them. This is in order to ensure that they provide better services at a higher level of performance. There have been changes that have been occurring to these systems in recent days and here is how they have improved upon these solutions.

Synchronized backups

One of the biggest worries for any correctional facility that is using the offender management system to keep prison records is the safety of the data that is stored. The challenge is that these systems have replaced manual record keeping methods, and this means that if the electronic records kept are lost then all of the data is lost. This is why the new systems are able to back up these records on a synchronized schedule.

There are two main platforms that are used for record backups; offline systems and cloud based hosting solutions. The offline systems used are essentially a distinctive hard disk that is only connected to the system when backups are being made. This ensures that if the data on the main system is corrupted from a software malfunction or hardware breakdown it can still be recovered. Cloud based hosting is a more elegant solution to the same challenge. In this mode, the data is backed up to a cloud based hosting solution that is accessible only to security and law enforcement agencies with the correct authorization. This ensures that data sharing between agencies is made much easier and; therefore, collaboration is eased.

Behavioral analysis tools

The new offender management software is able to provide simple risk analysis of incarcerated offenders’ behavior. This information is quite useful when determining things such as early release, parole, and offender pardons. The behavior analysis is performed by combining records of offender activity, reasons for incarceration, and any other available information. This is able to determine a threat level of the offender that determines whether they are eligible for any of the above mentioned activities. This feature is making offender management systems quite indispensable within the context of the correctional facility operations.
