All about maternity hospitals

by John Karry SEO Expert

Maternity hospitals are medical facilities that provide services related to pregnancy, childbirth, and new born care. They provide care for the pregnant woman, which is called prenatal care, and also for the woman who has delivered; this is termed antenatal care. These can be either fully specialized pregnancy hospitals or they can be part of an entire hospital institution. The advantage of the ones attached to a leading hospital facility is that they are able to source for specialized medical care faster where it is needed. For example, where the baby is delivered with a medical condition requiring surgery, these services can be obtained at the main medical facility.

A pregnancy term is divided into three month intervals called trimesters.  The second and third trimesters are where prenatal care is crucial especially for the first time mothers. These hospitals will provide regular medical checkups, advice on nutrition, hygiene and any other issues that may come up. Antenatal care is essential for mothers as it educates them on how to care for themselves and the baby. It also provides an environment where the doctors can monitor the progress of the mother and the baby. This is necessary because new born babies don’t have a strong immune system. The parturition process can be done in one of two ways; first, in a natural birth the baby is expelled through the cervix and enlarged vaginal opening. Secondly, where there are medical complications doctors may opt for a caesarean section where the baby is surgically removed through the lining of the womb. Some hospitals allow expectant women to determine the method of delivery they would prefer.

Hospitals maternity section are divided into several areas; there the wards both private and public.  These are classified based on whether they accommodate women waiting to give birth or already done so. There will also be delivery rooms which are used for the parturition process and surgical rooms for caesarean sections. There will be a nursery area where the babies are kept after they have been delivered. Other areas like family reception area, doctors and nurses chambers are also available. The medical professionals one can expect in this environment are the nurses who provide medical care to patients. Obstetrician and gynaecologists are medical professionals who have specialized in female health issues with a focus on the female reproductive system, childbirth, and related issues. In most cases, they will practice both disciplines.
