Tips to Fix if Your Switch is not Charging

As multiple issues that can arise, there are different ways to fix it.

Check the Outlet

The primary step to take before moving on and troubleshooting the issues is to check if the outlet you’re using to charge the switch is working or not. Plug any other device’s cable to the outlet and check if it’s charging. If it does not, there might be a burnt fuse. Thus, try using some other outlet to charge the switch.

Check the Dock

If you use a dock to charge your Nintendo Switch, check if the cables are connected properly. Sometimes, the cables might get loose that keeps the switch from charging. If it still doesn’t work for you, the dock might have got damaged and needed to be replaced.

Reset the Charger and Outlet

Before investing in a new adapter, try resetting the old one. The steps to reset the adapter are:

  1. Switch off your console by holding the power button for a few seconds.
  2. Click on the ‘Power Options’ option appearing on the screen.
  3. Select the ‘Turn Off’ option from the menu.
  4. Next, disconnect the charger from the switch and the outlet.
  5. Wait for a few seconds to one minute.
  6. If your outlet holds a reset button, press the button to reset.
  7. Connect the charger to the Switch and the outlet.
  8. Check if the Nintendo Switch is charging or not. A green battery will appear in the top-right corner of the screen if the console starts charging.

If resetting the charger and outlet didn’t help, try other methods to fix the issue.

Charge the Depleted Battery

If you haven’t used your Switch in a long time, the possibility is that the battery has completely drained. In such a case, an adaptor can take a while to get back to charging. The possible fix to troubleshoot the problem here is to leave the Switch on charge for a night. Check if the battery got charged or not, the following morning.

Clean the USB-C Port & Charger

If the USB port of the Switch has a layer of dirt inside it, it will prevent your Switch from charging. Make sure to keep the USB port clean. Also, never use any metal objects as it can permanently destroy your gadget. Instead, use a soft cloth or a cotton bud.

Invest in a New Adaptor

In case, none of the above methods fixes the issue; you might have to replace the adaptor of the console. It is advised to use the Nintendo Switch adaptor rather than going for any other option.

Send the Switch for Repairs

The last and final step is to contact the Nintendo Support Service. Once you’ve tried all the possible fixes, there is no other way to fix it on your own. Rather, it is essential to seek professional help and get your console repaired.
