by Pooja Chauhan Freelance Professional
When does labor begin ?

The labor begins when the cervical expansion is more than 3 cm and this is measured and determined by the midwives or the doctor supervising the birth. Often, if pregnant women hurried to your gynaecologist before the beginning of labor, they may be advised her to return home to spend the time they need to soften rather than stay in hospital.

How to speed up labor?

Sometimes, contractions may be slow, not strong enough, or the position of the fetus is not suitable, which may affect the functioning of the labor and make it take longer. Hence, your doctor may have to use some methods, for carrying out natural delivery without pain  like:

Tearing the fetal membranes is a small hole in the surroundings membrane to help out the head water by an internal examination using a finger or a long and thin probe.

A syringe of Syntocinon is put in the arm vein to increase contractions. This method is used if the hole of the fetal membrane is useless. This process may sometimes require taking a tranquillizer to help in bear the pain.

During these procedures, the fetal pulse and uterine contractions should be continuously examined using a fetal heart monitor.

What is the optimal position for natural birth ?

Finding the best position during childbirth will make things easier for you. Here are some of these situations:

1. Stretch in bed with using pillows for back

2. Lie on one side

3. Stand upright

4. Knee on knees and elbows - may help you if you are suffering from previous back pain

5. Squatting - may be difficult if you are not used to it before

The process of pushing the fetal out

When the cervix opens, allowing to see the baby's head through the vagina. It will be necessary to make a push to support the contractions in order to get the fetus out. The woman is advised to take deep breaths with the start of contractions and then push down, and repeat this several times until the contraction ends. Then, take a rest and regain your strengths to be ready for the subsequent contraction.

Birth and fetal exit

During this stage, the baby's head becomes ready to exit and can be seen through the vagina. Here, the midwife will ask you to stop pushing and taking short breaths through the mouth. This will help to get the baby's head out slowly and gently without any incisions in the vaginal area and perineum (the area between the vagina and the anus).

An incision of the perineum may require surgery by the doctor and stitching this incision after giving a narcotic.

As soon as the head of the fetus is out, the most difficult stage is completed. The baby's exit process is completed quickly and easily, and then the gynaecologist cuts off the umbilical cord to hold the baby in your arms.

The last stage and embrace the baby

Placenta excretion:

Even after the new baby is born, the contractions will continue to push the placenta out. Syntocinon is usually given as a syringe in the thigh to speed up the placenta's excretion by increasing uterine contractions, reducing bleeding after birth and thus preventing severe bleeding.

After the birth of your birth safely, carry the baby and put him on your chest and hurry to breastfeed. Breastfeeding contribute the return of the uterus to its former condition.
