Information technology perhaps influences governments more than corporations and private individuals. For the most part, corporations drive and advance technology. Consumers then jump on the trend taking up new and delightful doodads and ideas. Governments, on the other hand, typically lag behind and are enforced to catch up. And even if they do not want to be involved, they must, since existing trends and business practices call that they conform. Very interestingly Microsoft has decided to partner with the Government of Zimbabwe to deliver the needed results.

Ali Faramawy, Microsoft’s President for Microsoft Middle East and Africa (MEA), is planning to make a partnership with the government so that they can “to simplify, standardize as well as integrate [Zimbabwean government ICT] systems.”

Gesham Pasi, Zimbabwe’s top tax man, quoted on the work of the software “Microsoft will support us to improve efficiency and minimize ICT costs as well as implement centralized and standardize solutions across Government, contributing towards reducing software piracy and that also include security enhancement.”

The software will assist the government with handling the system, developing and dealing of Ministers’ websites and to build ICT knowledge and ICT gadgets for top government officials. Microsoft is also considering to open an office in the country. It had shut down their office during hyperinflation.

Microsoft is facing pressure after its domination was taken away by the mobile devices. It is also facing pressure from companies like Google after it has starting experimentation with cloud based solution.
