Image It can be quite a daunting experience moving to a new city and trying to find work. But never fear, there are more than enough opportunities in Barcelona for one to find employment. Depending on the type of work you are after will determine the level of Spanish or Catalan that you will require, and believe it or not, some companies do not require you to know either.

A great starting point if you are looking for work in Barcelona is hereBarcelona, a website where you can create a page offering your own services, like for example English classes and so on. Another very popular option is to use Loquo.com. This is a site similar to Craigslist and Gumtree where one can not only find jobs, but apartments for rent, items for sale, language exchanges and a whole lot more. Loquo.com is a great network for online classifieds and community websites in Spain. Browse the website in Spanish, Catalan or English to discover the hundreds of ads posted up on a daily basis. It is also free to post an advert offering your services and skills if you are looking for more ad hoc work.

Another website to check out is infojobs.com, one of the leading career sites in Europe; it is one of the most popular online job search sites in Spain. Top companies such as PWC, Vodafone, HP and BBVA and many more use infojobs.com and regularly post new job listings. This website comes with many features including the ability to create your own online profile that holds all of your information and resume, making applying for jobs through this site quick, easy and efficient. Also, when you log back in it automatically comes up with a list of recommended jobs based on your previous searches.

Barcelona Metropolitan is another useful site when looking for work in Barcelona. As well as offering advice on going out, eating and drinking, it offers some great tips on how to find work alongside interviews with industry professionals. You can also click on the classifieds section bringing up a host of job offers and personal services. It is also good to know that if you are planning on working as a freelancer in Spain you must register yourself as autonomo, and this does include a cost. This cost usually averages at around €200 per month depending on the work you do, however, for more detailed information you should visit your local AgenciaTributaria (Tax Office) in Barcelona.

Once you have a contract for your job you must go to get your Número de Identificación de Extranjero (NIE for short) which you need in order to work in Spain. This can be acquired at the police station on Rambla de Guipúscoa and will cost you around €10. If you are looking for work in Barcelona you can visit hereBarcelona.com
