Barcelona is the world’s 10th most visited city, with over 7million visitors a year. Despite the economic climate, tourism is still booming, particularly through the summer months where people come to see the city’s sites as well as taking advantage of the warm Mediterranean Sea.

It’s always nice to get to know the local culture and customs so you could start off with a Tapas tour. This great Spanish love is must try and there are plenty of restaurants offering this traditional snack. You could choose to take a tour guide that will take you to all the best Tapas bars, grabbing a drink and a few snacks each time. It’s a great way to talk to your guide about Barcelona, meet the locals and sample some of the best cuisine they have to offer.

As a tourist you may not take the time to get to know the language, but since Barcelona is very proud of its Catalan heritage you could impress the locals by speaking some of the lingo.  Catalan is the local native language; and it’s relatively easy to pick up some common phrases. You could of course take a class whilst your here, or opt to have a local tour guide that can teach you some key words and customs.

Most tourists who come to Barcelona choose to visit the SagradaFamilia and other Gaudi sites.  Barcelona is very proud of its distinct architecture, and if you ask locals they all speak of Gaudi with a sense of pride. In between relaxing on the beach and sampling the cuisine it is well worth visiting some Gaudi sites. There are many bike tours that take you up to the SagradaFamilia, offering you an innovative way to see the city.

If you can, it is always good to explore the wider Barcelona area. A nearby town to visit on the coast is Sitges. Famous for its beaches and quaint atmosphere it also plays host to a film festival if you are visiting during October and have a particular love for fantasy films. Now in its 46th year it shows films from a range of famous directors, such as Roman Coppola and Edgar Wright. This festival certainly offers a new and fun alternative to Barcelona tourism.

These are just a few samples of Barcelona tourism. There are many activities to do; you can tailor your visit to your needs and hobbies. Visit hereBarcelona.com to find a list of local services from tour guides to spa treatments and everything in-between. You can choose to combine two activities to get an even greater experience, why not choose to take your Catalan lesson over some tapas or hire a scooter for your drive along the coast to Sitges.
