Kolkata Management School BIBS Organizes MGIS 2015: Opportunities And Challenges In FMCG
FMCG
is a sector which is moving fast and growing immensely. An important
contributor to India’s GDP, it is the fourth largest sector of the Indian
economy. Although there are a lot of opportunities, challenges are also not
lagging behind to pull it down. In order to make the students aware about the
industry many B schools like organizes sessions on this. BIBS, a renowned B
school of Kolkata also put up a discussion on the same.
The
college believes in making the students aware about the industry by sessions
called Management Guest
inspired Series where eminent speakers shares their valuable knowledge with the
students. Recently one of such sessions has been conducted where the topic for
discussion has been “Opportunities and Challenges in FMCG and Corporate
Expectations. The guests of honors for the day were Mr. Arnab Chakrabarty -
Whirlpool, Mr. Sanjeev Dassani - R.K Swamy BBDO, Mrs. Indrani Chatterjee - PWC,
Mr. Amit Gope – Century Ply and also the college chairman Mr. Vidur Kapoor.
The eminent speakers and their
knowledge sharing
Mr.
Arnab Chakrabarty, the Regional HR, Whirlpool explained the distinction of FMCD
& FMCG goods by explaining that FMCD goods are the most expensive goods. He
shared with the students, the changes that are prevalent in the FMCD sector
that can be recognized from the past experience of the companies. He focused on
two things, skill set in the fresher to be recruited & the importance of a resume.
To him, data-oriented and passionate people are the most needed one in the
field. Proper understanding of the market, communication skill and presentation
skill are also equally important skills because the company will hire those who
can be the next leader of the company. While speaking about the resume, he mentioned
about the importance of it, as it creates the first impression about a
candidate. A short, simple and customized resume is what a company looks for.
Learning the Right Skills
The
next speaker of the day Mr. Sanjeev Dassani - Creative Director, R.K Swamy BBDOS
shared a real life experience which helped in better understanding of the
students. It’s extremely important to “Be yourself” as because ones skill will
be the ultimate speaker .It is important to, “Be Curious” and try to learn
& know everything around. Lastly one needs to “Be creative in what you do”.
The third speaker of the day, Mrs. Indrani Chatterjee - Director Human Capital
of Price Waterhouse Coopers mentioned in similar lines with Mr Sanjeev and
mentioned about the corporate expectations too.
Mr.
Amit Gope, Marketing Head, Century Plywood who has been the last speaker for
the day advised the students to read more, set a goal, remove all the
negativity and to recognize the strength. He told, “Dream big to earn
big”. One very interesting thing which
Mr. Gope said was nothing in this world is out of the box it’s how differently
one can create it under the known facts.
It
has been a good interactive session, which gave all the management students present,
an insight to what the corporate world expects. The right approach to bag your
dream job along with the opportunities that FMCG provides were extremely
enriching for the students.
