A message about meat shops in the country is becoming viral on social media. It is being claimed in viral messages that meat shops will now be closed on every Tuesday.

Facebook user Jitendra Sharma has posted posting a viral message-

“Now every Tuesday, meat shops will be closed in the country. Very beautiful decision, all of you also fully support it. Jai Jai Shri Ram."

All these types of social media are viral.

The investigation

'The Lallantop' explores the viral claim. In our investigation, the viral claim related to meat turned out to be misleading. Meat shops will not be closed on Tuesday throughout the country.

On searching with the help of keywords, we found a report of 'Hindustan Times' newspaper on 19 March 2020. According to the report, the Gurugram Municipal Corporation has ordered the closure of meat shops in the Gurugram Municipal Corporation area every Tuesday. Councilors raising the issue of religious sentiments have got this decision passed by the Municipal Corporation. The Haryana Municipal Corporation has the right to close the Meat Shops once a week on the basis of the 2008 law. The Gurugram Municipal Corporation has taken this decision under this law.

We did not find any decision to keep meat shops closed on Tuesday in any media report.

Result

In our investigation, the claim of meat shops being closed on every Tuesday across the country turned out to be misleading. The Gurugram Municipal Corporation has decided to close the meat shops every Tuesday. But we could not find any information about such a decision across the country.
