Improving Public Speaking Skills Is An Important Part Of Personality Development
Recruiters these days are constantly looking after the leadership skills in an individual which includes ability to communicate well publicly. B schools are also trying to make their students industry friendly and in order to do so, BIBS has arranged an event for their first year students called Aspire to Achieve where a student’s public speaking skills were tested.
Gyan Manch got to see
some public speakers in making
Gyan Manch got to see some many faces that were initially
not confident in the initial rounds but later with the help of efficient
mentors they impressed the audience as well as judges too. The event was
divided into phases and as we say practice makes a man perfect, so the same
rule was applied here. The students of the first year were the participants of
this event. Many of them have never turned up
for a public speech in their lives, and were understandably extremely nervous
in the time of the preparation. The students
shared their achievements and strengths as well as self introduction. It was a
magical transformation from shy, soft-spoken individuals to self-assured,
enthusiastic public speakers. The judges too asked questions to the students
which were confidently handled by almost every student. This was a high-energy
round as well, with students answering with aplomb.
A brief
synopsis of the happenings
The students got the opportunity to work with expert presenters, who guided them on the nuances of an effective presentation. The students put up a lot of effort along with the faculty members who guided them although. Happy faces and cheering could be heard from the students as who had qualified for level 2 were announced by Prof. Deepak Bhattacharya, the Dean of the institute. And so began A2A Level 2. The students who had qualified Level 1 were divided into teams of 4, and the 23 teams started their journey to win Level 2. Students prepared presentations on specific companies that have been assigned to their teams. Preparations started right from the 30th of September. Six teams got promoted to the third level and it was tougher as within 4 days they had to prepare themselves for the presentation on the industries which were given .Each team was given 20 minutes for the presentation followed by 10 minutes Q&A session. The event was organized at Gyan Manch where Lefkos Cygnus who presented Paint industry won the competition. Sapphire Rigels emerged as the first 1st runner-up who presented the Steel industry and Ochre Orion became the 2nd runner-up who presented the Tea Industry.
The eminent judges who were present to grace the occasion were Devang Kapoor from Hyatt, Somdutta Basu from SOTC, Tojo Banerjee from NSE, Poulami Banerjee from Keventer Agro and last but not the least Abhisikta Roy Chowdhury from CII. Teams were evaluated on the ground of grooming, power point layout, presentation skill and Q&A. The judges were extremely happy about the brilliant initiative of BIBS.
The event was indeed a highly enriching experience for the students who aspire and dare to dream good leaders. Douglas Mc Arthur has rightly said,“ A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions.” A to A has been just an initiative to make true leaders for our society.
