Importance of Employer Branding in Talent Acquisition

by Deepthi Udyawar Digital Marketing Manager

Recruiters are having a hard time these day to find the right talent due to the dearth of good talent. Applicants have more of an upper hand, being able to choose one company over another if it suits their preference. Companies on the lookout for the right talent, however, do not have the luxury of bypassing seemingly good candidates for better ones that could come along eventually. In case of companies that have a good branding, it is the candidates that flock over to be a part of the organization, reducing half the work for recruiters. Here’s how branding can be good for talent acquisition:

Drawing in the right talent

Unlike in the past, there are more vacancies to fill today than there are skilled talents. It is not only companies scouting for the right data but candidates on the lookout for good companies too. The many sites that allow employees to leave their comments regarding their working experience in a given company is as influential in swaying potential candidates a first-hand experience. Drawing in the right candidates often has the foundation of a healthy brand image that encompasses the company values, its employee-centric policies, and the views of the people about the company. Your HR metrics and workforce analysis can work even well when your brand comes across as one that can candidates prefer over others in the field.

Having the right positioning in the market

The concept of brand positioning was introduced back in the 1960s when two executives of a successful company decided to use the USP of the company as a key feature that would be advertised to associate the feature with the company in the minds of people. Since positioning your brand right helps you find a space in the minds of customers and potential clients, and gives you an edge over your competitors, talent acquisition is also equally influenced wherein the best talent give you a better consideration than the others in the field.

Retaining employees through positive branding

A good brand image can make your company a keeper - A keeper of the best talent in the industry that you spent months trying to find and recruit. Once a company is at the forefront in someone’s mind for all the right reasons, said company needs little else to persuade good candidates to join them. A major concern for most companies, however, is retaining employees rather than employing them. The investment made in hiring your employees is void if said employees leave you before you have managed to recur the cost through productivity and output. A good brand image and the right use of talent management systems are key to decreasing the number of attritions your company sees every year.

With your brand being a widely-known name, acquiring the right talent using the best recruitment metrics becomes easier. Even with a resource pool that has a limited scope of finding good talent, your brand image can help you retrieve the best talent from these pools.
