How to choose the best sunscreen for dry skin?by Dermalogica India Dermalogica Beauty
The first skincare product that comes to mind when you have a dry skin condition is a moisturizer. Many moisturizers even come with UV protection, but they often tend to be ineffective against damage by UVA and UVB sun radiation. So, it is essential that you opt for a broad spectrum sunscreen plus moisturizer with SPF greater than 30 to be on the safe side. And it is essential to choose the right sunscreen based on your skin type.
How to find out if you have dry skin?
Dry skin is a skin condition that is the result of using harsh soap, living in cold and dry climates or certain medical conditions. Know your skin type before you zero in on the right sunblock for you. You can easily determine your skin type by washing your face with a gentle cleanser that removes grime and dirt from your facial skin and leaving the skin to return to its natural state in an hour or so. Then, dab your face with tissue paper and check for tiny skin flakes on it. If you find that there are deposits of skin flakes on the tissue paper, it implies that you have a dry skin type. On the other hand, if you find skin grease on the tissue paper, it implies that you have oily skin.
Why use sunscreen?
Once you have determined that you have a dry skin type, do lookout for a moisturizer with sunblocking properties and a good sunscreen. Even better, look out for a sunscreen that doubles as a moisturizer. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on picking sunscreen. While UVA rays of the sun cause skin spots and skin ageing, UVB rays can cause sunburn. Prolonged exposure to sun rays without a sunblock has been known to cause skin cancer, too. To put sunscreen benefits into perspective, a sunscreen with SPF 15 offers 94% to 95% UVB coverage, while SPF 28 gives you up to 96% coverage.
What to choose if you have dry skin?
If you have a dry skin type, choose a sunscreen for dry skin that is oil- or glycerin-based, but make sure it is not so oily that it will clog your skin pores and cause skin breakouts. Hyaluronic acid is a recent breakthrough in skincare whose presence in sunscreen works wonders for those with a dry skin condition.

Test it out:
Though they are dermatologically tested, we recommend that you test the skin products from our house just in case you develop an allergic reaction to any of them. To do this, you just need to apply a little amount of the emollient on a non-discreet part of your body like the back of your lower arm or behind your ear lobe and wait it out for 24 hours. If you do not develop any reaction, you can use the product right away.
To apply the moisturizer that doubles as sunscreen, cleanse and tone your skin and apply a generous amount to the face and neck, preferably 30 minutes prior to sun exposure for best results.
