How do I fix my Outlook email not opening issue

Guidelines to resolve Outlook not working issue

Recover the Navigation Pane configuration file:

  • After repairing the Navigation Pane settings file, you need to open Outlook again without running into the same error over and over again. Here’s how to do it.
  • Click on the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to get the Run application.
  • You should paste in the following line and click on the Enter key on your keyboard.
  • You should fix it automatically and restore the Navigation Pane to defaults. Check if Outlook can open or not.
  • If you again receive this message “Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. The set of folders cannot be opened.” error, you can try manually removing the Navigation Pane configuration file and have Outlook reset it.
  • Tap the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to bring up the Run application.
  • And then paste it in the following line and click on the Enter key on your keyboard: %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
  • After that, File Explorer must open up. Then, look for the Outlook.xml and remove it.
  • Open Outlook again and check if the issue is fixed or not.

Repair your Outlook files:

With the help of the Inbox Repair tool, you can easily restore Outlook data files (.pst and .ost) that can get corrupted when uninstalling or reinstalling Outlook. To repair your outlook profile, you need to follow the below steps carefully.

  • Click on the File Explorer and go to one of the following folders: (32-bit)
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\(Your Office version) (64-bit)
  • C:\Program Files x86\Microsoft Office\(Your Office version)
  • Under this folder, search for the SCANPST.EXE file and right-click on it, then choose Open.
  • Tap on the Browse icon and go to the folder that matches your operating system: (Windows Vista & up)
  • C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook (Windows XP)
  • C:\ Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook  
  • Choose the Outlook.pst file and tap the OK button.

Tap on the Start button to begin the repair process. After that, launch Outlook once again to see if the bug is still present.
