How CBD Can Make Better Athletes

by Troy M. Mr
Aside from specialized training exercises, dieting, and even meditating, one of the most common practices by athletes today is taking health supplements. Aside from fish oils, whey protein, and even caffeine, many are also beginning to turn to cannabidiol or CBD oil.

These are just a few of the benefits that has made it popular in sports recovery.

Pain and Inflammation Reduction

In 2016, opioids found in prescription drugs were ruled as the cause of tens of thousands of deaths by overdose. CBD offers users with a pain relief and management option that is more organic compared to pain reliever medicines found at pharmacies.

While it is not as effective for immediately relieving extremely intense pain as opioids are, CBD is much more preferable for usage over a longer period of time. Athletes will not be at risk of becoming addicted or overdosing on this cannabinoid.

CBD also aids in the reduction of inflammation in the body. This can be helpful for athletes recuperating after a grueling training session, event, or an injury. In fact, they can use it in sports massages to help enhance the recovery process.

Improved Sleep

Sleep is one of the most important factors that affect an athlete’s performance in competitions and even in training. Those who ingest cannabidiol before bed often report feeling much more well-rested compared to those who do not. This is because CBD stimulates the neurotransmitters that slow down activity in the brain and promotes sleep.

Reduce Anxiety
In sports, a case of nerves is sometimes the only thing that determines how well an athlete does during a game. Cannabidiol has been widely used for its ability to relieve stress and lessen anxiety in users. Athletes can use it to get them more relaxed and become more confident before they play their sport.

Is CBD legal for athletes?

According to the World Anti-Doping Agency, athletes are allowed to use CBD, though other cannabinoids remain prohibited.

While the presence of other cannabinoids in CBD and hemp oil products are still a probability due to the manufacturing process, the traces will be so small that they are often undetectable.

The usual amount of THC – should it be found in CBD products – usually fall at about 0.3% or lower.

Either way, users should still practice caution and make sure they are buying high quality oils that are as pure as possible and come from certified, trusted sources.

If the product contains a higher concentration than usual, athletes will be in danger of doping violations. Worse, depending on the city they are playing in, they might even be breaking the laws.

Don’t Let It Stop You From Using

Though CBD is becoming more popular in the sports community for its properties, there are still many studies to be made on how to it can be used by athletes to its best potential.

Even so, this should not deter them from using it as they already are, be it through capsules, tinctures, or drinks. They should start first at small doses before increasing it gradually—just as they up the ante of their training.
