Guide to a Healthy Meal Plan

by Trimfit Bodies Health Made Easy

Eating right is important for keeping you fit and avoiding certain health risks. Changes in your dietary plan can have huge impacts on your sense of wellbeing and your emotional and physical health.

What is a healthy meal plan? It is not something that keeps you deprived of your favourite foods or suffocating you with strict dietary restrictions. A healthy meal plan is something that makes you feel healthier and happier, keeps you in shape, lifts your mood and all this without making you feel that you are stressing yourself.

Here is a guide to a healthy meal plan:

Take small and manageable steps: When planning for a healthy diet, start with small little steps that can be managed rather than incorporating drastic changes all at once. As you get comfortable with the small changes, gradually incorporate other bigger changes. Here are a few things that you can do:

·         Cook your own meals: When you are in-charge of cooking your own food you know what you are eating and what you should avoid.

·         Switch to healthier alternatives: Ditch the unhealthy items for some healthy additions. Swap the fried chicken for grilled fish or your morning cappuccino for a cup of green tea. Switch to healthy fats and refined carbohydrates for a healthier eating.

·         Keep it fresh and simple: Rather than getting over conscious about calories plan on adding more colour and variety to your meals. Buy fresh ingredients and avoid packaged and processed food.

·         Keep yourself hydrated: Water helps you get rid of toxins and wastes in your body. When your body is properly hydrated you don’t feel dizzy, tired and low on energy throughout the day.

Don’t stuff yourself: Eat only as much as your body needs. Not more than that not less than that. A healthy meal plan finds the perfect balance- proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals all in the right amount. When you totally prohibit some foods in your diet, you end up craving for them more and if you give-in to the temptation you cannot help feeling guilty. Therefore, rather than banning specific foods make it a point to eat them not so often and in small portions.

Include sufficient fruits and vegetables: Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, antioxidants and fibres. They are low in calories thus keep a check on your weight. Ideally, you should consume five serving of fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Include colourful fruits and vegetables as they contain highest amount of nutrients.

Eat more healthy carbs: Healthy or good carbs are a great source of energy and keep you full or long. Whole wheat, brown rice and millets are excellent sources of healthy carbs. When buying grocery, look for the whole grain stamp on the packaging.
