Group Mentor Coaching for ICF Credentialing

by Powerhouse Coaching ICF certified mentor coach

Credentialing candidates looking to fulfill their ICF ACC, PCC or MCC coaching credential are required to participate in ten hours of mentor coaching prior to submitting their application to the International Coaching Federation (ICF). The ICF requires group mentor coaching to be a minimum of 7 out of 10 hours required, and the group size to be 10 or less.

Mentor coaching with an ICF credentialed coach provides an excellent opportunity to access professional assistance for achieving, developing and demonstrating necessary coaching skills for certification from ICF. Coaches have the option of completing these hours in a group setting or one-on-one format. However, when you opt for the group format you benefit from the richness of other coaches coming together in a group setting and are able to learn from the experiences of your peers. Also, you will participate in multiple coach-the-coach sessions with focused feedback from your mentor coach.

Mentor coaching provides a safe space to make significant tweaks in your practice, take note of your bad habits, and work on how to be in partnership with your clients. You participate in experiential activities and journaling work to deepen your learning and gain competencies as a coach. During your group mentor coaching sessions, your mentor coach will observe you in action and provide you real -time feedback and support.

In the final hours of group mentor coaching, you will have several one-on-one conversations with your mentor coach after the group sessions are finished. During these private sessions you can bring in general questions related to the competencies or ethics or more specific ones related to the clients you are working with. There will be ample opportunities to ask specific questions and concerns as it relates to your forward movement as a coach.

Many coaches believe that they have great coaching skills but that is often not the case as most coaches haven’t had a qualified mentor coach listen to their coaching and provide competency-based professional feedback.
