Glimpses Of THE BIG FAT INDIE EXHIBITION 2015
THE BIG FAT INDIE EXHIBITION 2015 was a rocking fest held
recently at the institute. A large number of independent artists the platform,
to expose their talent and come together to support each other as freewheelers.
The
First Day
The theatre event proved out to be the limelight of Day 1, with
DRAMASUTRA, a group of school students literally forcing the audience to hold
to their stomachs with their play – TRP, a mockery of the Indian Media. Ayan
Ganguly, a team member, who was initially scared about the audience reaction
was feeling proud to perform at ILEAD and was overwhelmed with the response.
Prema Rajaram, who had high hopes for the future editions said,
“As a journalist it is my duty to support creativity and so, I would always
extend all possible support to anything that promotes and encourages fresh
talent”. Co-organizer Deepank Sheth on being questioned why the event was
conducted in form of a exhibition and not a competition since that would have
attracted more participants, replied that the latter format leads to fading
away of the attitude of performing for the art and leads to commercialization
of independent art forms which is quite bad.
Glimpses
of the event
The event was divided
over two days with the first one being taken over by short films, theater,
dance cypher battles and DJ cypher, whereas the second day was reserved for
music, stand-up comedy & writing, painting and photography exhibition with
musician Amyt Datta being the star attraction.
Vinny Dholakia from the audience expressed her desire to screen
her own short film in the forthcoming editions whereas her friend Upasana Chakraborty
who was expecting DJ Cypher to be the highlight of the event was having a great
time being a volunteer for the exhibition. The show began with SEVEN BY 7, a
short film by Bishwaroop Carr. The host of the event was Pavitra Jain, a
stand-up comedian himself. Arjun Kar, one of the organizers, thanked ILEAD
students and mentors for their immense support and said, “People should
understand that all artists need to help each other in reinforcing the faith of
the masses in such unique independent art forms”.
