THE BIG FAT INDIE EXHIBITION 2015 was a rocking fest held recently at the institute. A large number of independent artists the platform, to expose their talent and come together to support each other as freewheelers.

 

The First Day

The theatre event proved out to be the limelight of Day 1, with DRAMASUTRA, a group of school students literally forcing the audience to hold to their stomachs with their play – TRP, a mockery of the Indian Media. Ayan Ganguly, a team member, who was initially scared about the audience reaction was feeling proud to perform at ILEAD and was overwhelmed with the response.

 

Prema Rajaram, who had high hopes for the future editions said, “As a journalist it is my duty to support creativity and so, I would always extend all possible support to anything that promotes and encourages fresh talent”. Co-organizer Deepank Sheth on being questioned why the event was conducted in form of a exhibition and not a competition since that would have attracted more participants, replied that the latter format leads to fading away of the attitude of performing for the art and leads to commercialization of independent art forms which is quite bad.

 

Glimpses of the event

 The event was divided over two days with the first one being taken over by short films, theater, dance cypher battles and DJ cypher, whereas the second day was reserved for music, stand-up comedy & writing, painting and photography exhibition with musician Amyt Datta being the star attraction.

 

Vinny Dholakia from the audience expressed her desire to screen her own short film in the forthcoming editions whereas her friend Upasana Chakraborty who was expecting DJ Cypher to be the highlight of the event was having a great time being a volunteer for the exhibition. The show began with SEVEN BY 7, a short film by Bishwaroop Carr. The host of the event was Pavitra Jain, a stand-up comedian himself. Arjun Kar, one of the organizers, thanked ILEAD students and mentors for their immense support and said, “People should understand that all artists need to help each other in reinforcing the faith of the masses in such unique independent art forms”.
