Everything You Need to Know About the TiVo Stream 4K

TiVo is better known for live TV DVRs that have text-heavy interfaces. It, however, lags behind media streamers like Chromecast With Google TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, as they have responsive interfaces and they extensively support multiple streaming services.

The company is finally trying to catch up with other competitors with its TiVo Stream 4K. It is a mini plug & play box that gets plugged into the back of the TVs and offers access to all the apps and services that are available on the Android TV, alongside a TiVo menu system.

TiVo Stream 4K also features live access through Locust and Sling TV. You do not even have to set up any cable connection or antenna as it is a DVR, so you don’t even need a TiVo subscription.

TiVo Stream 4K: Design

The TiVo Stream 4K has a similar build like Chromecast, and it is only a bit kind of rectangular instead of round. It is a black colored slim plastic block that has a one-inch cable which comes out of the top and gets plugged in an HDMI port. There’s a micro USB port that is on the opposite end of the cable which is for power and a USB-C port on to the right side that enables you to use additional storage and peripherals.

The remote of TiVo Stream 4K looks like a mini version of the one you get with the TiVo DVRs. The remote has a gentle dog bone design alongside a vast number of rubber buttons. It has a circular direction pad, alongside a TiVo button that you will find above the volume rocker, the channel rocker, and a few other buttons. There’s also a Google Assistant button below, and the remote has a number pad alongside a dedicated Netflix button situated below it.

Android TV and TiVo Stream 4K

TiVo Stream 4K makes use of Android TV, to run a vast number of apps and streaming services, including Amazon Prime, Hulu, Google Play, Sling TV, Netflix, Twitch, and YouTube. Google Cast feature is also supported by it, to provide you access to the content directly from your phone, tablet, computer or on a Google Chrome tab.

TiVo Stream app runs on Android TV, and you can access it by pressing the TiVo button on your remote. TiVo Stream offers access to the majority of apps and content through a TiVo alike menu system rather than stock Android TV. It has a user-friendly and responsive interface arranged into various menus that can be accessed from the left sidebar. The menus include Home, Guide, My Shows, Movies, TV Shows, Sports, Kids, and other Apps.

TiVo Stream delivers 4K resolution content, and it supports HDR in both Dolby Vision and HDR10. The channels load quickly and with all the necessary settings. Also, its menu controls are much responsive.

Final Verdict

TiVo Stream 4K is an impressive mini media streaming utility that would significantly appeal mainly to the live TV viewers who have subscribed to the Sling TV. It is an excellent media streamer under $50. The price and capabilities of the TiVo Stream 4K make it one of the most attractive utilities from a value perspective.
