Easy Ways You Can Lose Weight, Without Losing Your Mind

by Lucy Jones Chief Cook & Bottle Washer

It’s not easy to lose weight in today’s world. Between ready meals, fast food, and sedentary desk jobs, most of us are facing an uphill battle when it comes to staying slim. In fact, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that almost 70% of Americans are considered to be overweight or obese and that's just in the USA.

And as a result, obesity-related diseases like type 2 diabetes are also on the rise. If you’re struggling with your weight, you’re certainly not alone. But that doesn’t make it any easier to shed those excess pounds and keep them off long term. However, it is possible – lots of people do it every day. Here are a few tips that can help you can lose weight without losing your mind:

Start with the small stuff

If you want to lose weight, you’ll need to make some changes to your daily routine. That said, you shouldn’t expect to make massive, sweeping changes straight away. That’s a sure-fire way to set yourself up for failure. Instead, start with the small stuff. Start eating one or two servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

Give up your morning muffin or bagel and replace it with a piece of fruit. Instead of grabbing a take-out coffee on the way to work, brew yourself a cup at home. Get in the habit of walking when you can. Instead of taking the car to the grocery store, walk there. If you can walk to work.

These are just a few examples of small changes you can make that will have a big impact on your weight. Remember, losing weight doesn’t happen overnight. And it certainly won’t happen if you’re trying to do everything at once. Take things slowly and make one small change at a time.

Exercise regularly

Losing weight is all about calories in versus calories out. Essentially, you need to be burning more calories than you’re consuming. And while there are some quick fixes, like taking weight loss supplements, they’re not sustainable. If you want to lose weight in a healthy way, you’ll need to start exercising regularly.

And don’t be fooled, you don’t need to go to the gym and do an hourlong workout every day to see results. In fact, 30 minutes of exercise three times a week is enough to boost your metabolism and help you lose weight. And not only will exercise help you shed pounds, it will also improve your mood and overall wellbeing.

Commit to a diet you can stick to

If you’re hoping to lose weight quickly, you might want to consider going on a special diet. There are plenty of diets out there, but not all of them are created equal. If you’re someone who struggles with willpower, it’s best to steer away from strict diets that require you to follow a certain set of rules. Instead, go for a diet you can stick to. It might not lead to quick results, but it will be good for your health in the long run.

That doesn’t mean you have to go on a bland, tasteless diet that leaves you feeling hungry all the time. There are plenty of healthy diets out there that will help you lose weight and feel full at the same time. Paleo, ketogenic, and vegan are just a few examples. As long as your diet contains a healthy mix of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, you should be good to go.

Don’t punish yourself when you’re hungry

If you’re trying to lose weight, you’re probably going to experience some hunger pangs in the process. That’s completely normal and nothing to be ashamed of. It’s just your body adjusting to the changes you’re making. However, if you start to punish yourself for feeling hungry, you’ll only be harming yourself, start stressing, and produce more cortisol, which will only add to your weight. Instead of shaming yourself when you’re hungry, try to distract yourself until the urge passes.

You can also try to engage in some mindful eating, paying attention to your hunger levels and eating only when you’re truly hungry. Remember, it’s perfectly normal to feel hungry when you’re trying to lose weight. Your body is just adjusting to the changes you’re making.

Bottom line

If you’re struggling with your weight, it can be easy to feel defeated. But the truth is, losing weight isn’t easy. It takes time, effort, and a lot of willpower. However, if you’re patient and you don’t give up, you can achieve your goals. So start with the small stuff and make one change at a time. And don’t punish yourself when you’re hungry. Instead, try to distract yourself until the urge passes.
