Microsoft Exchange is a professional emailing service, which facilitates users with multiple benefits. This data sharing and management is done maintaining the data on the server. Along with this, the personal mailboxes can be also saved to the local machine as OST file (Offline storage table file). This file stores emails, contacts, calendars, journals, etc. belonging to the mailbox for which it has been created. The file is created when while configuration is done enabling cache mode. There are many restrictions on its usage, hence users need an easy technique to open, and save OST file, which can be, accessed anywhere.

Why Is It Difficult To Access OST File?

Accessing OST file is difficult is not a correct statement. OST file is completely accessible but under some situations, it becomes difficult to access this file. Let us see what these situations are where the file is inaccessible:

  • OST File Is Corrupted: In case the Exchange OST file is damaged or is corrupted, the file will not be accessible by user. Corruption breaks the file integrity and in such conditions Outlook program does not recognize the file. Such files throw errors while accessing the emails of account.
  • Accessing in Another System: OST file is bound with the MAPI profile for which it has been created. It can be accessed only in the system where it was configured. If users are trying to copy this file to another system, it will not be accessible. It is restricted to use this file in any other system.
  • Exchange Account Unavailable: Exchange account to which OST file belongs must be active in order to access the OST file. If the account is been dismounted or is deleted, OST file will not be accessible.

How To Make OST File Emails Accessible?

Users can perform OST to PST conversion by exporting or archiving the emails to PST file. This PST file with Microsoft Exchange emails can be accessed in any system by simply importing to an Outlook account. Since PST file has no restriction on its usage, it can be easily accessed in any system using Outlook program. Unfortunately, this export can be done to healthy OST file only. Corrupted OST file are not at all supported by the Outlook application and hence the export process is not possible. In such case, it is suggested to utilize external utility like OST Recovery Tool that can convert OST file data to PST file. This utility support both orphan and corrupted OST file and hence it is an optimum solution.
