Insufficient nutrients in an elderly aged person can be observed with physical changes in the looks like graying of hair, wrinkled skin, bowed posture, loss of vision, decrease physical strength, decrease in number of taste buds and papillae on tongue, decreased secretion of saliva etc. These are some physical and psychological changes that occur during old age. Accumulation of excess waste products lead to poor nourishment of body and a person may undergo conditions like, improper digestion and absorption.

A healthy but balanced diet should be followed after the age of 60. Diet of elders should include food like whole wheat, oats, liberal intake of fresh fruits and vegetables which supply vitamins, minerals and fiber in the body and are also rich in antioxidants.

Due to lose teeth and decreased saliva secretion the diet should include foods which are easily chewable and easy to digest. Saturated fats like ghee, butter, dalda and trans fat are best avoided as it may create problems in digestion. Your taste buds might vigor you but after the age of 60 you must avoid Fried and salty food. Excess sweets are also avoided during old age to prevent blood pressure, diabetes, and risk of cardiovascular heart diseases. Milk and milk product should be included in the diet on regular bases to compensate bone loss and prevent osteoporosis.
