Custom suits

by Prakash Ravi Digital Marketing Executive

A custom suit currently means either a made to measure or a bespoke suit, which is when a company measures you and orders the closest fitting existing suit pattern to your body and then makes small adjustments. Mainly they are classified in to bespoke  and made to measure. They offers custom fit, means personalized with regrad to shape and size.

Bespoke tailoring is clothing made to an individual buyer’s specifications by a tailor. It is traditionally cut from a pattern drafted from scratch for the customer. They differs from made to measure clothing and readymade clothing. Made to measure clothing is produced to order from an adjusted block pattern and readymade clothing is made from standardised sizes defined already.

 How bespoke suits are made?

It involves creating a suit from the ground up. It can take any form, any shape, any material, and is usually handmade by two or three tailors.

The process begins with an intial discussion with the customer about their needs, style and the ways and occasions you may have to wear it. The tailor then takes your measurements with detailed notes. With the help of measurements made, a set of bespoke patterns is drawn and cut with the cutter.

The cloth you have chosen is then cut using these patterns and the final product is made. It gives you a superior fit to the body and clearly it is the biggest benefit of bespoke. It lasts longer than anything mass produced. It also offers the opportunity to develop a truly individual garment, not just in shape but in material, detail and finishing.

The main disadvantage of bespoke clothing is time. It takes a long process. Some positively enjoys the process but its not for the impatient customers. Also, it is expensive when compared to made to measure suits and readymade suits.

How it differs from made to measure?

Made to measure suit is like a readymade suit, but with the benefit of an altered fit. One interesting aspect of made to measure is the cloth, buttons and other trimmings available. In some ways, the offering can be wider than bespoke. The problem with made to measure clothing is that the fitting is done by salesman, not a tailor. Here, bespoke gains an advantage over made to measure clothing.

Herringbone and sui is one of the largest brands offering both, made to measure and bespoke suits in India. They use the finest horsehair reinforced lining sourced from Germany, which gives smoothness naturally. This ensures that the canvas conforms to your body’s shape, allowing a perfect fit. If you search for custom suits mumbai, you will be directed to herringbone and Sui.
