The concept of towel heaters is the brainchild of Geoffrey Ward. Today, heated towel rails are immensely popular and their popularity has soared in the past two decades. Ward made the world realize that the way people dried towels required some serious revolutionizing.

No matter where you travel to, be it the cloakroom of a luxury European hotel or a family member’s en suite bathroom,  you are much likely to spot en electrical towel radiator or a standard heated towel radiator. Electric towel radiators have become popular in the recent times as opposed to the standard ones. Indeed, having such a device for your bathroom really helps when the weather is unfavorable.  However, many home owners are not really sure what kind of towel warmer should they buy.

First and foremost, one needs to decide whether they require  a standard towel rail or an electric towel rail. A standard towel rail is one that functions on the centralized heating system while the electric one is plugged in the mains electricity system. There is also an option of a dual-fuel towel rail that is connected to the central heating system and to the mains electricity. If there are central heating pipes present in the room where you want to install the towel rain, then you can opt for a traditional towel rail. If this is not the case, then you are advised to hire an electrician for installing the rail that is connected to the mains electricity. With a dual-fuel towel indicator, it is possible to operate the rail by the heating system in chilly winters when the room’s heating is most often turned on. In summer season, when the central heating is not much utilized, you can utilize electricity for heating the rail without having ho power on the central heating system.

Once you have made up your mind on how the heat will be transferred to the device, you should then be deciding the power output as well as its size. To decide the size, you should be measuring the distance between your bathroom or en suite’s inlet pipes, if the room has a central heating system installed. When you look to buy electrical towel radiators or the standard ones, you need to check ‘pipe centres’ dimensions that are ideally shown the retailer in the product’s specifications. This measurement of the pipe centers is the distance present between two pipes fitted on the towel warmer and ideally, this distance should be match closely to the distance found between the bathroom’s pipes. You can then be assured that you are purchasing a right towel warmer for the room.

It can be slightly tricky to calculate the heat output that your room requires. It is measured in British Thermal Units (BTUs) or Watts. Designer Radiators Direct has an exhaustive collection of these devices.
