BIBS , ranked among Asia’s 100 best private institutions,  have always provided the students with the best education and infrastructural facilities. Brandwar is a recent initiative taken up by the institution to give students an edge about how the industry operates.

Brand war: What is it All About?

 To facilitate practical skills and learning newer techniques in marketing strategies, BIBS has come up with “Brand war” – a tough war among the brands. Created by the students, these brands had 4 teams namely Lefkos Cygnus, Ochre Orions, Golden Hercules and Sapphire Rigels which competed among each other.  The task that has been assigned to the students was to create new brands along with the recent know how about the marketing strategies, the minute details that needs to be taken care of while launching a product along with the presentation skills. Lefkos Cygnus won the competition and the Ochre Orions has been declared the runners up.

The parameters set and the Winners

There were certain parameters based on which the teams were judged and these included in-store design, marketing strategy, media plan, presentation, collaterals etc. There was also a question –answer session, which took place after the presentation. In this session the judges asked them questions related to their products. Also points were to be allotted for other sections too like radio jingle, advertisements, newspaper ads etc. Golden Hercules got 2nd prize for the in-store design.   Mr. Vidur Kapoor, the chairman of the institution shared his views on the occasion saying, “This initiative of ours will surely help students to have a better understanding of marketing strategies.”

Students got a better understanding

The judges panel included corporate executives like Dev Narayan Sarkar, Associate Director of Franchise Operations,Pepsico, Sanjeev Dassani, Creative Director of RK Swami BBDO, Sujoy Roy, Senior Creative Director, Ogilvy and Surojit Sen, Client Services Director-Digital,JWT. The eminent members shared their thoughts on marketing and branding strategy and students got to learn a lot from real life leaders.  These types of real life experiences helps students understand the marketing concepts better.

Brand war has been a very successful venture as this enabled the students to get a glimpse of how the industry works and these practical events helps them not just in knowledge sharing but also in enriching their knowledge base.
