5 Tips On How to Style Up Your Basic Wardrobe

by Tess D. Content Strategist

We all love our skinny jeans and black sweater, but do we wish to take things to the next level every now and then? Sure. Do we want to mix and match our wardrobe of basics with an array of new chic styles? Of Course.

Before moving forward make sure you have a solid capsule wardrobe—your staple basics— if you don’t, this is when you will want to invest in one. Your staple wardrobe collection can consist of a simple black dress, a standard t-shirt, a blazer that fits perfectly, and a leather or denim jacket. Now, let’s dive into how you can style up your basic wardrobe!

  1. Try a Colorful Dress

Although our simple, one-colored dresses are our “go-to” on pretty much every occasion, you may wanna try some chic boho fashion dresses. Opt for the one that flatters your soul! Be bold and choose some of the vivid colors you’ve been meaning to try for a while now. I mean, life is too short to not throw a show-stopping dress in your wardrobe every now and then!

  1. Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize

It’s never a bad idea to accessorize! Small details like a belt, a classic timepiece, or birthstone stacking rings can transform your look from plain and boring to sleek and chic! When your outfit is a basic one with neutral colors, you can choose multiple accessories like a belt, some earrings, or maybe a women’s hat, but when you are already wearing a versatile outfit, one bold accessory should do the trick.

  1. Choose Your Activewear Wisely

We usually put on activewear when we are about to hit the gym or our morning jog around the park. However, it would be smart to choose your activewear wisely in order to make the most of it. For example, you can opt for tights that don't look too “sporty” so you can mix and match them with an oversized t-shirt or sweater and still look dashingly beautiful and put together. Or consider a long-sleeve zip-up that you can layer over a black or white t-shirt for a coffee date. It’s a casual way for you to pull off that put-together look.

  1. Play With Colors, Patterns, and Textures

The days of matching your shoes, handbag, hat, and dress are far behind you. The time has come for you to experiment and mix and match bright colors, different patterns, and textures. If this is new to you, fear not! Start small and pair a few elements - maybe a striped sweater with that loud patterned handbag - and start to experiment more with mixing and matching items and accessories that might not look like a good match at first sight. You might just pleasantly surprise yourself with a trio of articles that makes you look like the ultimate fashionista. Nothing makes a bold statement more than clashing textures & prints.

  1. Layering is Your Best Friend

Layering is how you stand out! Your simple caramel trench coat can compliment your standard neutral dress with an interesting accent. Though, the catch here is you don't want to overdo it. It is important to choose the layering that flatters your body shape.

Finally, you can seek inspiration from others or from the internet. You can check for stylish women’s tops online, or any other pieces you would like to try. Nevertheless, make sure that every outfit speaks to you. It is important to feel comfortable at all times, even at work, so don't be afraid of letting your creativity guide you!

Wear it Boldly and Proudly

No matter what you have sitting in your basic wardrobe there are always variations and options for you to add a little extra something to make your daily style unique and completely your own. Add a splash of color, layer those items, and get bold with crazy unconventional patterns that reflect the seasons, your personality, or the event you are just about to head off to. Happy styling!
