We are living in the age of technological revolution. New platforms, applications and ground-breaking concepts are being developed every day. Do you know that you can hire a personal shopper to shop for your clothes if you are not a fan of shopping? Due to the concept of the “Internet of things" one can find different ways to work and even play. These changes are evident in the recording and voice-over industries as well. New technologies are now available to help you out with remote recording, such as Sound Streak, ip DTL and Source Connect. However, one of the truest as well as easiest ways to record voice is through ISDN.

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) services may not be the latest technological advancement, but are definitely capable of delivering high-quality recordings. Many studios tend to opt for ISDN voice actors. Therefore, ISDN is the big player unless a new standard comes into play.

1. Confidence and Dedication

It is not easy to get an ISDN line. One has to go through a lot of red tape, negotiate with several businesses as well as utilities, and spend huge amount of money to buy the rights to secure an ISDN line. Voice over actors contact their local phone companies to inquire if such lines are for sale. However, if the phone company is not able to meet their needs due to their locations, those actors can contact the Internet or radio service providers. They have to pay for the line after finding someone who can provide it. ISDN lines are quite expensive (around $1500+) and one has to pay $100 (or more) for each month’s service. Thus, if an actor has an ISDN line, it means that she or he is dedicated to the field of voice-over acting.  As a result, one of the safest ways for recruiting any new talent is through an ISDN audition.

2. Quick Voice-over Casting

Lots of investment is made during casting. One has to spend good amount of money as well as time to attract applications. Audition sessions have to be scheduled and attended as well. Thus, one has to wait to market and gain profit from their products if the selection process takes a long time. With the ISDN voice over actors, the entire casting process can be streamlined and thus in-studio auditions can be eliminated. You can simply send the materials for the audition and listen to it. It also reduces the time involved in replacing an actor while you are in production. This reduces the costs associated with changing actors as well as casting mistakes.

3. Recording Flexibility

ISDN voice-overs can be scheduled quite easily when compared to traditional voice recordings. An ISDN actor can record their lines from any corner in the world, as long as they have access. This makes the scheduling process quite easy and even allows one to respond to injury or sickness that could otherwise delay your regular recording process for weeks.

4. Consistent Connections

Many studios still opt for ISDN actors, even though several new recording services are available on the internet that is capable of delivering the same benefits. This is mainly due to connectivity issues. IP services are affected due to slower Internet connections and this can ruin the recording session. However, ISDN employs copper lines, thereby ensuring good and consistent quality.

It is not necessary that ISDN and IP should be mutually exclusive. ISDN is used by studios for making recordings outside the studio while IP services are employed while on road. This allows one to take advantage of the flexibility as well dedication of the ISDN actors without ignoring the IP actors.
