Why switch to EVs? - Switch Delhi Campaign Launched, Avail Tata Power-DDL subsidy

by Mansi L. Be happy
To accelerate the shift towards electric vehicles, the government of the National Capital Territory launched the Switch Delhi Campaign to appeal to the citizens of Delhi to adopt EVs. The mass awareness campaign aims to make Delhi the EV capital of India and to combat pollution in the city.

The government of Delhi is appealing to the citizens to replace their petrol and diesel polluting vehicles to zero-emission EVs. The adoption of electric vehicles has a multifaceted impact—both economically and environmentally. They have no tailpipe emissions or noise pollution and are low maintenance as compared to conventional fuel vehicles.

After the launch of Delhi EV policy, more than 6,000 EVs have been purchased. The government has also issued tenders for setting up 100 charging stations across the city, helping India achieve its EV mission at a faster pace.

Delhi’s EV policy is considered one of the most progressive policies globally as it aims to become one of the top cities worldwide in terms of EV adoption. The government has fixed an ambitious target to 25 percent vehicles among total vehicle registrations in Delhi by 2024.

Subsidy Policy to promote EV

Under the EV policy, the government is leveraging extensive subsidies on a two-wheeler and four-wheeler subsidies, besides waiving road tax and registration charges.

A single window facility is launched by the Delhi government in coordination with DISCOMs for the installation of chargers for private electric vehicles. By visiting Tata Power-DDL EV portal or by calling Tata Power-DDL Sampark Kendra @19124, a consumer can avail a charging point. The installation will be completed within seven working days after the submission. A consumer has to spend a total of Rs. 2500 for a charging point to be installed.

The National capital has been recording high levels of air pollution. Vehicular emissions are one of the main reasons for poor air quality. To restore the air quality pollution levels, the government is taking progressive steps. To support the urban mode of transport, Tata Power-DDL is supporting its vision of promoting EV adoption. Apart, Tata Power-DDL is also facilitating the establishment of public charging stations and battery swapping in its licensed area.
